Good morning everyone. For Halloween Weekend I thought I would post the above extreme pose by one of my Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina) friends that I've had on file for a while wondering if I could find an appropriate time to post it.

When deciding to post it for today I noticed the photo in the comment section in my file of a similar pose by another male Halloween Pennant and thought I would include it. But while the above was definitely a case of the dragonfly acting silly at the time, the one in the comment section was wind induced.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a great Halloween Weekend. Enjoy, have fun and be safe.

This mill is on the river Ant in Irstead. The water levels around the mill are now kept very high and there is no footpath or land access to the mill. The mill can be seen by boat from the river Ant or from How Hill on the Ludham side of the river.

I was looking forward to go out with xinapray to do some early morning low-light shooting. We went out to Golden Gardens Park, in Seattle, WA, when it was still quite dark, found a nice spot on the beach and had to realize that there won’t be any beautiful sunrise that day. I believe I was still able to learn a lot.

Some additional remarks:

-I would like to tell you that this is straight out of camera but I had to correct a 3 degree tilt (using a tripod – how embarrassing),

-I had to crop quite significantly to get a composition I like,

-I worked on quite some layers on the curves to get the light and the contrast the way I want it (and to further reduce the noise of a 30 sec exposure)

-I felt I needed to do a b/w conversion.

-Thanks for the use of the ND-filter, Ray (it really helped a lot)

I hope you like it (and the two other versions of that morning too).

For a better version of the same rocks I suggest having a look at Ray’s Swirls taken that same morning.

These photos are for you, Ray!

Please consider having a look in Large and on Black

A couple of fun images. These guys were so curious and fun to watch. But they didn't always stay above water very long. Giant Otters taken in North Pantanal, Brazil. Another photo is in the comment box.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

This is Bessie my Easter egger/Dutch bantam, anytime i talk to her this is the look she gives me.

Another shot that I have always wanted was the RLHH crossing Highway 6 in Caledonia.

Here we see RLHH 3049 easing across Highway 6 and holding up the rush hour traffic to make their first move at Caledonia.

The conductor would hop off the unit and head in to Tim Hortons for a trio of coffees.

This unmarked Typhoon based at RAF Lossiemouth departs for a sortie from runway 23 end. Quite a spectacle to see as the aircraft is rolling down the runway straight into a cloud of smoke caused by the previous aircraft lifting off. It just shows how immensely powerful the engines are on these fighter's as the amount of smoke and steam is from heat and jet power evaporating from the wet runway surface.

6th July 2017:

I had rather a busy morning so while I had a chance I took a quick photo of Izzy playing with the tennis ball in the garden.

Izzy "Mum says that in somewhere called London, people are watching tennis while others are eating strawberries. Well Rufus eats Mum and Dad's wild strawberries, so I thought I'd better learn how to play tennis. Although Mum said I'd probably make a better Ball Girl than a player."

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

If you ever wondered how animation films are made... this 2 mins video explains the process of animating a character.

SHORT EXPLANATION

- Make or use an object

- Make an armature (=skeleton with bones)

- Parent the object to the bones

- Then give the object different poses at different frames in the timeline (an animation is just a rapid succession of frames).

Done.

LONGER EXPLANATION

1. Start from an object/character you made.

2. Then make an armature, i.e. bones, which is like a skeleton for your object. Obviously your bones will have to move in a clever way, for instance when you bend the knee, it will have to bend forward, not backward. This can be done with inverse kinematics which is an object constraint you can add to a bone, that has to affect a chain of bones.

3. Then you parent the object to the armature (skeleton) you made.

4. And finally in pose mode, you can keyframe different poses in a timeline. For instance at time zero your character is in its default pose. At frame 5 you move it down and make it bend its knees, keyframe that. Then move frame 10 and move it up and to the left, keyframe that position, and so on.

(I added a plane and some colours)

5. And then you hit the play button!
