"Farming is a profession of hope." _ Brian Brett

While I am patiently waiting for the warmer weather of spring to arrive, I realize that farmers have more at stake than I do if spring is a wetter and cooler season this year. Last weekend we had our snowstorm but this weekend there is hope of two digit temperatures and some sun. There is hope that this will melt the last of our snow and maybe I can play in the garden for a few hours. I need to be careful not to uncover too much debris as some of our pollinators may still be sleeping in the warm underground until it really warms up. However, I just can't resist the urge to get my hands just a little bit dirty this weekend.

Storms make people stronger and never last forever.

And my photographs are there mainly as pointers, indications, of a vision of possibilities where stillness and silence abound––and where Light is understood to be a substantial reality. My photographs are my greatest teachers. It is my hope that they offer a moment of pleasure to my viewers––and perhaps a tiny hint of (mutual?) understanding ... but, as always, I have no expectations.

From the top of Win Hill Pike on a very windy day, at least it was at the top. Bradwell village can just be seen in the shadows.

I thought I would post one more from this memorable sunset outing.

The sky became even more spectacular after sunset, but by that point I was a bit of a muddy mess! This was shot on the low tide at Morecambe with the fishing vessel LR191 "Hope" lying at anchor on the muddy shoreline.

My Friend Hope arrives at the pond

I have been so overwhelmed by the pressures of the season. I have a literal list of pictures I want to take that just keeps on growing. I keep missing days worth of pictures from all of you wonderful artists and I miss it so much.

There is hope on the horizon. Soon the shopping frenzy will be over and we can all just enjoy the beauty of the season and the warmth of our loved ones...and hopefully a little me time with my computer :)

While in Hope Town on Elbow Cay in the Bahamas we were able to ascend the lighthouse there. Built in 1862, it’s about 154 years old, and is still in operation. It is one of three remaining operational kerosene-fueled lighthouses in the world. It has a spring mechanism that has to be hand cranked every several hours to maintain the sequence of five white flashes every 15 seconds. The lamp burns kerosene oil with a wick and mantle. A large Fresnel lens, floating on a bed of mercury, focuses the light. It can be seen from 23 (43 km) nautical miles away.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Enjoy!

The sun sets across Morecambe Bay with the Western Lake District fells silhouetted in the distance.

Hope is one of the few fishing vessels that still operate here from the shore at Morecambe.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring...

Well, except for Skippy, who thought he heard a noise in the living room.

I have a glimmer of hope people will wisen-up and take coronavirus seriously, no challenge to our nation has ever demanded such a degree of common and united action. We have to beat this crisis and this will only work if we ALL do our part in social distancing. I do it all the time it isn't that difficult. Please stay home and be a hero! I want to give thanks and respect to our brave, front line medical workers -- I don't think I could do that job. I noticed last week the small towns have a greater sense of community with no hoarding of toilet paper in the stores which is really nice to see. Stay safe my Flickr friends. We will get through this together.

Stuart was telling me how hope and courage, inspired by others, helps him to fight against his multiple sclerosis. He spoke positively about the troubles that ail him because fighting those made him stronger and more hopeful. Inspirational words. Enjoy!

This 53 year old veteran is still running strong and earns her keep in the Hope Valley at the Cement works in Hope. Her main duties are to drag cement wagons up and down from the works along the 1.5 mile branch. The cement works and adjacent quarry kicks out approx 1.5 million tons per year so this 20 is a busy girl.

The 20 has been allocated the number 2 and the name Sir George Earle but in her former life she was 20168 built in October 1966 at Vulcan Works. She has had a silencer fitted to her exhaust system but she still sounds unmistakably like a 20.

Here she is seen starting her run up to the works from Earles Sidings with some loaded coal wagons which had arrived on the once weekly service from Cwmbargoed.

To see 20168 in action follow the link above.
