Good morning, my dearest friends

I hope the day is being kind to you

There is such devastation from the fire here

33,000 acres burned, only 10% contained and 10,000 homes evacuated

I live south of the fire, and my home is safe for now, but many of our friends have had to evacuate over the night

Wildfires are something we live with here, but as we are human, we never expect it to happen to us :((

One of my daughter's friends, who is also a runner, ran home for 6 miles, because their car could not get through the gridlocked traffic, to get to her dog, only to find him dead due to smoke inhalation :((

My heart breaks at such sad stories

Having one's home burn down to the ground in a flash....to lose everything one has, except for the clothes on one's back, can be devastating

We are blessed to be a few minutes away, and the winds have been kind to us, but unkind to so many others

I may not be able to catch up with you today, as my daughter and I plan to volunteer at one on the evacuation centers today

Pray for all of us, dear ones!

Pray that those brave firefighters, who fought the fire through the night, are able to get a handle on the beast today :((

Have a wonderful day xoxox

And hug a loved one just a little longer

Love

xxxx

ps: for those who would like to follow the fire, it is known as the Sand Fire

いつも歩く海岸からホテルの明かりの文字が見えました。HOPE。

身近でこのような光景が見られると思いませんでした。

自分が応援されていると思うと、とても心が暖かくなりました。

I could see the letters of the lights of the hotel from the beach where I always walked. HOPE.

I didn't think I could see such a scene at home.

I felt very warm when I thought I was being supported.

I hope some of my friends who are bird experts can identify these birds for me.

Hope the message inside the church.

One of those "I don't care if there's nowhere to park just stop the car now" moments

For the suffering

Because we can all use a little HOPE in this crazy world. This is straight from the camera, except for my watermark and removing some noise. I can hardly believe it myself so I don't expect you to. I'm going to put myself out there which I don't normally do. I am so tired of everything going wrong and yesterday was the straw that broke the camel's back, after that I took a look on Instagram and saw the most incredible shots and videos and thought to myself why bother shooting, how can anyone be interested in what I post after seeing that...leaving me very uninspired and hopeless. This morning something woke me up like someone threw sand in my eyes, rubbing sleepy, itchy eyes like crazy saying WTF to myself only to look out the window and witness this. It was all God and Nature... I just pressed the button on the 7D Mark II.

Even in the darkest moments, there is light.

Heartfelt thanks to the incredible work the NHS, keyworkers & community project spirit are doing in South East London.

Wild camp on Stanage Edge last night.

I had the whole edge to myself from about 20:00 on. Set up about 30 mins after a pretty dramatic sunset which I'll post tomorrow. Forecast wasn't even close giving clear skies until about 5am before high cloud came in. It was the opposite way around. Alarm was set for 4am and when I unzipped the tent I was surrounded by cloud which began to clear by 5am. I packed up and was back at the van for 04:45.

I had planned to get to Over Owler Tor for sunrise but the cloud was far too low so decided to beat the traffic and check what Hope Valley looked like. I ended up on the road to Blue John Cavern to check the view and see if it was worth the walk up Winnats or Mam Tor. Much clearer and looking back down the valley I was pleased I'd left so early otherwise I'd have been packing away under the rain in the distance.

Not the best nights sleep so didn't bother with Winnats or Mam Tor and ended up watching the clouds and sky changing colour sat on the bench on the left with a coffee. Took a few shots which have come out okay and this was a 5 shot pano.

Managed to get my pack weight down to 13kgs now including a litre of water which was fine for the mile or so walk along Stanage to where I camped. Wouldn't like to walk much further at the moment. Only issue is to get the weight down further either requires taking just one lens or spending hundreds on super lightweight gear which I'm not going to do.

Enjoyable evening but those grouse are noisy little sods:)

testing out a new backdrop from FOXCITY

The longer I was sitting on the snowy rocks by the lake the more I was starting to feel the process of freezing inside my body, as if the blood in my veins were starting to turn into ice, just like the veins I was seeing on the surface of the frozen lake in front of me.

Then a thought came to me; how many people out there were feeling exactly the same sensations in their bodies right at that moment, and how many of them had sunlight, a shelter, a sign of hope rising in front of them to warm them up again?

I couldn't think for long, I couldn't stay for long. The sunlight didn't warm me up and the shelter wasn't safe enough for me to go in.

I stood up and Ieft. I went back home.

That morning I felt grateful for my shelter, and fearful for those who are without any.

For those who's hopes and veins remain frozen in their lakes.

One of the lighted homes in a cul-de-sac in Cody, Wyoming decorated for te Christmas Season.

A Northern Spotted Owl juvenile.

This day it took me 40 mins to locate one of the juveniles. I could consistently hear it yet miserably failed to find it. Finally when I located the source of the sound, it was evidently clear that I have a lot to learn.

I spent another few minutes to photograph (which I posted earlier). Then, when the sunlight was nearly gone and I started walking back, just down the trail I heard the same familial sound.

I slowly looked back and there it was. I don't know if it is the same juvenile or the sibling, but she/he was only few feet from me. For the next few minutes it followed me closely, and I stopped intermittently to take a few images in the dimmest light I have ever taken an (wildlife) image.

The day could not have ended any better. The efforts of many months finally paid off with an unforgettable memory, and with a little 'hope' that we can live together.

I chose this title because my orchids bloomed for the third time under my care! I've never had much luck with these flowers and don't know how long this run will last, but I have hope!
