Everyone and their brother who has visited the historic mill district in Minneapolis has taken this photo. Sometimes you just have to make it your own! Taken from under the beautiful stone arch bridge and looking into the exposed walls and waterpower features of the 19th century flour mills. This piece of important Minneapolis history was long buried under mud and gravel has now been excavated and turned into a fascinating park.
Lake State's Z119 crew is northbound at Clio, Michigan with a matching pair of SD40-2s and a healthy-sized train of manifest freight bound for Saginaw and points beyond. Amazingly, both locomotives date all the way back to the year 1966 and were both built as straight SD40s on shorter frames. The 6304 was built for the Chicago & Northwestern as their 878 while the trailing 6302 for the Southern Pacific as their 8405. Even more amazing, the pair of tri-light signals to the right of the train were erected in 1928 as part of the second-ever installation of centralized traffic control (CTC) on a railroad. But most astonishing of all, the Clio depot to the left of the train dates all the way back to 1873, still standing and looking great 149 years after being constructed by the Flint & Pere Marquette Railway. The building is now owned by the Clio Area Historic Association, which has kept it very well maintained since purchasing it in 1977.
Modern History on the Waterfront
Here is the link to the video!!
Last post from this house, here we are on the second floor looking out into tall ceiling over the living room.
This home last sold for $800,000 almost 20 years ago and I its value has no doubt gone way up since then. I couldn't find any other similar homes for sale in the area but there was one that isn't a waterfront home and judging by its asking price I would imagine this property is worth somewhere around $3 Million today. The home was a large two story building with a partially finished basement and a living room with a two-storey high ceiling. The home was custom built likely in the early 1900s and had seen many renovations over the years. A few months ago the home was demolished and I would imagine a new McMansion will take its place.
I was not terribly excited about this house when I visited which is quite unfortunate because after going through the content I realised it was very photogenic and I now wish I had spent a bit more time there. It's funny how sometimes you don't appreciate things until they are gone.
This was one of the first videos I have ever filmed so it is a bit shorter than usual, the audio isn't great and I am far less comfortable in the narration...oh and at that point in time I was not doing my intros and outros.

Robert the Bruce - Wetherspoons pub. Dumfries, Scotland.
Dumfries is a market town and former royal burgh in the south of Scotland, located in the region of Dumfries and Galloway. The town is situated on the banks of the River Nith, and has a rich history and cultural heritage.
Dumfries was an important trading centre in medieval times, and played a key role in Scotland's wars of independence. The town's most famous resident was the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who spent the last years of his life in Dumfries and is buried in the local churchyard.
Today, visitors to Dumfries can explore the town's many historic landmarks and attractions. These include the ruins of Dumfries Castle, which dates back to the 13th century and played an important role in Scottish history; the Burns Mausoleum, where Robert Burns is buried; and the Robert Burns Centre, which houses a museum dedicated to the poet's life and works.
Other popular attractions in Dumfries include the Dock Park, a beautiful public park with gardens, play areas, and sports facilities; the Dumfries Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into the history of the town and the wider region; and the Theatre Royal, a restored Victorian theatre that hosts a wide range of performances and events throughout the year.
Dumfries is also a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, which is home to a wealth of natural beauty, including rolling hills, rugged coastline, and tranquil lochs. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, and cycling, as well as explore the many picturesque villages and towns that dot the landscape.

Photographed during the Night Photo Session of the 2023 Winter Spectacular. East Broad Top 2-8-2 #16 sits on the turntable by the roundhouse and a crew observes the locomotive as it steams into the night time air. Who would have thought in just over three years the EBT would again see steam and life back to an almost forgotten railroad.
Olde English Inn, Esquimalt B.C.
this is a replica of an old English Inn or Pub dating back to the time of Charles Dickens. It is due to be demolished along with other cottages due to financial problems and the area will be re-developed. The main building will be retained and upgraded.
It was nearly dark when I took this photo in the summer of 1994 in Banks Valley, Idaho. Local people are proud of the mixed history of the area, including Native Americans and pioneers on the Oregon California Trail, which descends Big Hill and goes through Banks Valley. For a few years people dressed up in period costumes and for one night reenacted the trip on the trail, complete with covered wagons and an Indian ride. It was a beautiful sight to see the column of horses descend the hill to the trail, but a challenge to get the shot on film in very low light.
An afternoon Bognor Regis to Victoria service runs into Amberley station on the 'Mid Sussex', or 'Arun Valley' line that runs between Horsham and Arundel Junction. This shot was taken from inside to wooden waiting shelter which has informative panels displaying information about the local area which is rich in history.

This week in 1997, space shuttle Atlantis, STS-86, launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on its way to dock with the Russian Mir space station. During nine Shuttle/Mir docking missions, NASA astronauts performed several experiments developed by researchers at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. These experiments helped investigators prepare for experiments on the International Space Station. Here, Atlantis returns to Kennedy after its 10-day mission. The NASA History Program documents and preserves NASA’s remarkable history through a variety of products -- photos, press kits, press releases, mission transcripts and administrators' speeches. For more pictures like this one and to connect to NASA’s history, visit the History Program’s Web page.

One view of Federal Mill #3, once the largest lead mine and processing plant in the world. At its height, 4500 people worked here. Now a Missouri state historic site, it includes a museum and additional exhibits, with more planned for the near future. A fascinating place, huge in scale, with many interesting photo opportunities.
