Shot from the hip as this kid rode by.
Shortly after taking this, a guy dressed as a clown, in make up and everything, also rode by me on a bike. I had my XA in my hands and tried to snap a picture from the hip (he even waved!) but of course he's no where in the frame.

WOW, HOW long has it been since I last shot The Bench Flickr??
So, here it is. I remember meeting Derek on a Friday afternoon in Paris at a busy cafe and talking about this project. I gave him a card with the 'None Aggressive Hoodies' on it and 5 months later I was exhibiting some of the images at his gallery in Melbourne, Florida.
And so, whilst out on a cold November afternoon, it came to pass that Derek too should get to pose on the very same bench accompanied by Cassandra.
I've missed you bench.
We met artist and photographer Gil Mualem-Doron at the launch of his New Union Flag creation during Portland's b-side 2024 festival.
We unexpectedly met him again today at b-side's Underground Gallery exhibition in which photos are displayed in the three tunnels of the Victorian High Angle Battery military complex on top of Portland.
Gil was heavily involved in organising this event and also displaying some of his own work. He was photographing the finished exhibition for his own records. Whilst most photos could only be seen by torchlight, several were backlit by daylight where vents were built into the battery. It was rather like looking at a church's stained glass window. Here Gil, lit only by torchlight, kindly posed for a photo adjacent to his work entitled 'Adam'
Daniel and I usually spend our days each in our own rooms, but today I joined him in his and let a very homey and cosy day fade away in this spot. :)

This was one of the purest moments I've ever seen. I was on the rocks close to the sea because I wanted to make a photograph of the bay of Vitória, Brazil. It was a very pleasant afternoon and some families and couples were there to contemplate that gorgeous nature. Though beautiful it was, my attention was grabbed by a young boy who was playing on his own in a puddle of sea water. In his hands, he held a tin, a line but no fishhook. He was just making believe he could fish something there. I am sure that his innocent imagination allowed him to fish everything he wanted to. He needed nothing and no one else in that moment. Maybe, he wished for nobody to disturb his Lonely Play.
There’s a celebrity behind that screen on stage and this crowd gathered for an opportunity to meet him and take a photo.
After finding out who it was, I realized that I had to idea who this dude was.
So… through the power of Photoshop and imagination, I created my own story-line…
One of my Flickr contacts has a series of yacht hull abstracts that I find fascinating and I’m not the only one who has proposed that these abstracts would make a great exhibition. I superimposed one of these abstracts and imagined that this is a gathering to meet him as he does his world tour of yacht abstract art… Matt, sorry in advance for taking this liberty.

Good Morning. Sometimes photo ops just fall out of the sky and land in front of your moving vehicle. This Osprey was having a hard time with his rather large and struggling freshly caught breakfast when he landed in front of my car. Didn't want to stress him, so just took some shots from my car. Took him a few tries, but he was soon able to lift off and enjoy his fish in private.

I'd like you to meet this shy little guy. He used to live in the Steiff forest but was captured by the raiders of ebay. He wasn't properly cared for and lost some of his fur. My mom rescued him and brought him home. Having too many monkeys already, she gave him to me so that I could give him lots of love and care.
BNSF's Cowley Turn twists slowly thru the scenic Himes Canyon. The canyon is located where the Bighorn River cuts thru this mountain between Kane and Himes, Wyoming. .... The Cowley Turn originates at Greybull, Wyoming and serves the numerous mineral and agricultural producers north along the scenic Bighorn River.

Most of the pictures I take of him are blurred because he is one purring ball of love and energy and he just wants to get close to me. But when I get him to sit still for one or two seconds I love experimenting with light.
Once again a natural light shot, no external flash or whatever. Other than crop SOOC.
Looking back, I would have changed the aperture to f/4 and cranked the iso some so the nose would be in focus too.
AT last!!! This fella has been avoiding me for a couple of weeks. I have seen him at the nut feeder a few times, but so far every time I picked up my camera it flew off or was startled by another bird just as I was ready lol. But today my chance came :O)
Just a shame the weather so so flipping shite eh? Grrrr
i watched him through the quiet pulse of the christmas market in valencia, where lights hung low and laughter flickered like fire. he sat alone, cloaked in a heavy hood and the evening’s chill, his brush dancing delicately across the canvas. the world blurred around him—soft hands and loud steps—but he stayed, focused, lost in his craft. each line he painted seemed carved from his soul, a quiet language of patience and purpose. the scarf curled at his neck like a tether to earth, but his mind drifted elsewhere, where tiny art could bloom unnoticed, untouched.
his hands told stories the crowd would never hear, and in the faint glow of lamps, i froze time.
The Dutch are well known for their aviation enthusiasm, and the fact that the crew were flying a Dornier 228 rather than an F-16 did not deter them as they bade farewell to Fairford.
PH-CGC is operated by the Dutch Coastguard and this, or its sister-ship, is a regular at RIAT.
PH-CGC was once carried by a KLM Convair Liner but that was before my time....

A friend was in town over the weekend, took some photos for him at a local park. Striking fella, ain't he!
I have to tell you about Dave. Not my brother Dave - you know about him already if you've been reading these adventures and keeping notes. I'm referring of course to the other Dave - the one who procures a wadge of tickets for rugby internationals in exchange for spending half his spare time volunteering at his local club and tells me to stand outside my house and wait to be collected on the evening before the game. On such evenings we will head just past Plymouth to Gareth's house where we will always have a Chinese takeaway before heading to Twickenham the next morning. Dave and Gareth have been doing this in metronome like fashion since they were teenagers in 1972. Greater quantities of beer than I'm used to or are good for me are generally involved. It's a routine I always look forward to, even though I'm a lifelong football nut and only have the vaguest grasp on what's going on in between those strange H shaped posts during the big match. Somehow I've been inveigled into their gang by stealth. I feel like the slightly younger clueless looking one on "Last of the Summer Wine." Apologies if you're not from the UK or you're under 45 as that last statement isn't going to mean anything to you.
Dave likes music as well. Because he's twelve years older than me he's seen all the bands I love the most. He was there to see the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon and John Bonham before they succumbed to their excesses. Just recently he shared with me a poster from the Bath Blues and Rock festival of 1970 where he saw among others, Led Zeppelin, Santana and Pink Floyd. Gareth usually went with him to events such as this so I tend to get the stories in stereo to make me even more envious of their superior vintages. Sometimes I wish he just wouldn't tell me stuff like this. I was only 4 and my parents wouldn't have let me go anyway. Besides which I hadn't fully familiarised myself with all of their albums at that stage. I was still busy getting to grips with Bill and Ben.
Dave is a useful person to know, but at the same time I've become accustomed to knowing that his call will result in substantial amounts of open wallet surgery, in exchange for which I will be entertained. One day he told me to book a long weekend because we were off to see the Foo Fighters at the Olympic Stadium in London. Flights, accommodation, river trips and a Billy Idol concert the following night in Brixton cost me the price of a decent second hand L lens, but it was three days I won't forget in a hurry.
Two days later, with a head full of tunes and a soul full of memories from as fantastic weekend as it's possible to achieve with two men in their mid 60's, I looked outside the window as the plane came in to land at Newquay. The sky was doing beautiful things and I was stuck in the air. I sighed as I gazed at an intense orange sunset through the plate glass window.
So the following evening, Lee, Dave - my brother Dave this time - and I headed to Bedruthan and watched the sun disappear behind a bank of cloud in an unpromising sky. We looked at each other doubtfully and groaned about having missed the previous evening. But as in the song, just as you think it's all over and you're about to head for the pub, something happens in the sky and suddenly it was all worthwhile. Well those aren't the exact words to the song but, you know.....
