I’ve not long returned from another holiday in Greece - the plan again was to do some exploring, mixing in some time in the mountains to hopefully catch some low flying jets during the week before a large-scale military exercise began in the region.
The first couple of days turned out to be pretty successful.
Unfortunately for the local communities and Nature Reserves around the remote Northwestern area of the Peloponnesus though, a wildfire developed, fuelled by rising temperatures & strong winds during the following weekend & continued to spread East until our departure later the next week.
This seemed to halt any chance of low level action during the start of the first week of the Ex so instead I opted for ‘hunting down’ the activity of the brave aerial firefighters, hopefully opening some different photographic opportunities.
Watching a pair of Canadairs pass low over your apartment during a peaceful Sunday lunchtime omelette gets your attention & seeing the tell-tale smoke in the distance I put two & two together.
So for the first afternoon of what was to be known as the Northwestern Corinth Wildfire I decided to see if I could recce a suitably elevated upwind position in the hills to watch the Heroes do their thing.
Spectacular scenes but extremely sobering to witness - seeing this challenge of Greek life first hand puts many things into perspective.

The Greek Parliament House in Athens: North of Syntagma square, in the centre of Athens, there is an austere Neoclassical building that now houses the Parliament of Greece. This three-floor building has two entrances, one of the west side which is used for the entering of the MPs in the building, and another on the front side, facing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Next to the Parliament House, there are the National Gardens and Zappeion Megaron. The construction of this building lasted from 1836 till 1842 and it was designed by the German architect Friedrich von Gartner.

Cleaning up the undercarriage and keeping low on departure from RAF Fairford's RIAT 2024 display is this Hellenic Air Force McDonnell Douglas F4E Phantom II. Fantastic to see this iconic dual seat Fighter aircraft originally flown by the USAF in 1960. Often affectionately known as "the old smokey" or "the big ugly" Hellenic Air Force ordered 58 of these beauties in 1971 under the "Peace Icarus programme" and are flown 117 Pteriga Makhis combat wing in Greece.
