Last week I was very busy in Washington, D.C. and couldn’t spend much time on flickr but at least I got some photo opportunities. I was at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Rosslyn, Virginia located near the Arlington National Cemetery to get some sunrise pictures. I was surprised about the wonderful view of the National Mall and so my favorite picture for this trip is this capture of Nationall Mall with Capitol, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.

Iron Pyrites (FeS2)
This is a macro photograph of a formation of iron pyrites nicknamed "Fools Gold" in the shape of a heart.
Iron Pyrites is mostly iron, it has a brass & yellow metallic lustre, as can be seen.
The nickname came from the days of early gold mining when inexperienced miners thought they had struck it rich after finding pyrites as it looks very much like the real thing.
Actually some types of pyrites do contain some gold content, and where you find one the other may be around also!
I found this piece of pyrites myself whilst fossil hunting and thought it was an interesting shape!
HMM everyone!

From a photography class project. We had to take some pictures in the style of David Hilliard. Ugh. I ended up breaking that heart thing. Also, the parasol is there to cover the toilet xD

Heart of Gold.. HBW :)
WOW! thank you all for your lovely comments... :)
Just to answer a few mails to all who asked.
Camera is a Pentax K20D with SMC PENTAX D FA 50MM F2.8 Lens. Lighting consisted of 4 candles of 4 Lumens approx of light reflected off a silver tray at 30deg elevation from which the pattern is then reflected to reveal a bokeh brushed gold reflection. Depth of Field was 14.5mm at 212.5mm approx. Due to the nature of burning candles lighting is not evenly displaced, which makes playing with candles all the more fun :)
Time spent setting the shot up? you dont really want to know especially when trying to do it with a sneezing cold - lol, as for the effort and reward from all your comments - Priceless thank you all again :)

This is a detail of the Statue of Liberty Bike we found at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. It was built by Orange County Choppers (OCC) a custom motorcycle manufacturer based in Orange County, NY. It is dedicated to the statue and freedom using artifacts from the statue itself (from the restoration). What fascinated me a lot was the awesome colour of the copper plating.
A very difficult casting.... those hearts were just TOO edible.
Le casting a été difficile, ils étaient juste trop bons...
A willow tree figurine.
Heart of Gold was inspired by a young cancer patient,
Scott Kristopher Innes, at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
“Scott's boundless and positive energy reflected on those around him, and as a result, good things continue to radiate from his spirit. His courageous spirit and kind smile showed me how one little heart of gold can continue to bring so much love, joy and comfort to others. It is my hope that this figure expresses the pure and honest affection between a child and those who love and care for him.”

My Wild River Reflection!
A gold tinsels wraps my Wild River and I let myself be charmed… docile as a child… amazed! The heart of gold of my Wild River desperately try to seduce me to each of my steps… she knows that I will have to abandon her for the winter! But it is not yet the time to leave… too early yet! She still seems to have secrets for me… under the branches! :)))
Heart Of Gold…Neil Young!!!
Large is very nice, try Original if you want more detail.
Still with my lovely friends, Nic, Denise and Damian the pie eater.
We had time to visit the nearby church for a wander about. We were very careful not to step on any marked or unmarked graves ;)) It was a lovely day, here you can see the Midland hotel and a slight view of the Westend of Morecambe and Heysham.
Twas a slight dusting of snow to make the scene a bit more romantic :)
This macro photo is of a globe artichoke; a vegetable that my father had been growing. Its leaves are hard and have spiked tips, which makes the artichoke look very menacing. The centre of the flower however is soft and yellow coloured. This has always reminded me of one of my favourite Neil Young songs. I have always thought the artichoke had a heart of gold.

Heart of gold, loves this very old song, the lyrics are very simple, but rich in profound life meaning. I've been a miner for a heart of gold... I hope everyone can be a miner who can tap the potential of his life and have a heart of the child.... In my vague impression, Neil Yang found the harmonica from his pocket and played the song with the guitar... It’s so nice that I can’t help but tears..I want to live, I want to give, I've been a miner for a heart of gold...
Yesterday evening after a hard working day i had a relaxing walk with some friends to the Marina of Flisvos.
It seemed like a good place to test my new Tokina 11-16mm abilities.
Minor post processing, just some raw corrections,On the right bottom you can see fish trails resulted from long exposure
Try the large size to find the boat with the smile stamp print :)

Perhaps not the most clever of titles, but what else could I call it? Except perhaps "Heart of Stone"... but that's just not where my heart is at... ♥
(This is simply a puddle reflection in between some ancient rocks on one of my favorite of Lake Superior beaches, where the rock jutting out from the puddle caught my eye. One of the bordering rock's shadows reveals the contents of the puddle, while the heart is surrounded by a cloud-filled sky.)

Avec Neil Young, The Heart of Gold et Harvest Moon....

Heart of Gold is for the love that I have for the western plains of Canada and the United States, to these areas still inhabited by the spirit of the early pioneers and of the first indigenous inhabitants. It is also a tribute to the workers of the land and to those who, like Neil Young (to which I borrowed the title of the image, inspired by a song from Harvest) celebrated, in music or otherwise, their hard but simple and unpretensious way of life. This photo announcing the arrival of a thunderstorm on these vast plains, has been taken in Gravelbourg, a small francophone community in southern Sakatchewan.
And with Neil Young, The Heart of Gold and Harvest Moon....Enjoy
