Made in the USA they have been used on every adventure large and small since the early 1970's, they are Indestructible and lightweight they are easy to clean and also in the evening they become a tent lantern if you stick a torch/flashlight in them !

Vier tot vijfmaal per week rijdt SBB Cargo een gasketelwagentrein tussen Köln Eifeltor en Münchmünster. Laatstgenoemde plaats ligt zo'n 70 km ten noorden van München aan de spoorlijn Ingolstadt - Regensburg. Naast Münchsmünster worden in de nabij gelegen plaatsen Vohburg en Neustadt a.d. Donau eveneens chemische treinen behandeld.
In Münchsmünster staat een vestiging van chemieproducent LyondellBasell, van oorsprong een Nederlands bedrijf en tegenwoordig de op twee na grootste producent van polyolefinen ter wereld. In Münchsmünster wordt vooral hogedichtheidpolyetheen (HDPE) gemaakt wat uit aardolie wordt gewonnen. Polyetheen is de meest gebruikte kunststof of plastic. De polyetheen wordt via een ruim 350 kilometer lange pijpleiding (EPS Ethylen-Pipeline-Süd) naar Ludwigshafen am Rhein afgevoerd.
In Münchmünster wordt naast HDPE ook butadieen en methylpropaan geproduceerd. Butadieen wordt via het spoor afgevoerd naar Köln Eifeltor via Offenbach Gbf. Op donderdag 25 juli 2019 is de "Alpazähmer" 482 022 onderweg met een lege trein naar Münchsmünster en passeert hier in het Maintal kort voor Retzbach-Zellingen.

The Volgermeerpolder lies close to the village of Broek in Waterland. The Volgermeerpolder is the largest waste disposal site in the Netherlands. From the 1960s on, a great amount of industrial and chemical waste was also brought to the Volgermeer. At least 10.000 chemical waste barrels containing various toxic substances including dioxin were dumped. Dioxin is considered to be one of the most toxic substances ever created by man. Protests from the residents of Broek in Waterland led to the closure of the landfill in 1981. The whole area has been covered with a layer of HDPE protected foil, thereby isolating the toxins. In 2011 it became accessible to the public. The new Volgermeer is considerably higher than the surrounding landscape. In this area a network of dykes retains rainwater, favourable to many species of plants and animals and peat development. This raised water landscape is a permanent reminder of the history of the Volgermeer. Cyclists and horse riders can traverse the site on specially designed paths. Spoonbills, ducks and avocets have already been sighted; frogs and dragonflies will soon be part of the population. is expected to inhabit the reed beds. The Volgermeer is not only wetland. A large part of it is covered with a dry layer of soil which will develop into butterfly-rich grasslands. In some places, fields of boulders have been made to provide a suitable habitat for the harmless cold-blooded grass snake. The highest points of the dry areas provide stunning views over flat Waterland.
For many years the Volgermeer polder was used as the Amsterdam city dump. In the 1960's large amounts of toxic waste was illegally dumped. When discovered the bad state of the barrels made further investigation imposible. Known is that they contain dioxin and agent orange, highly toxic substances. Removing the complete dump would be very costly and dangerous. So in the 1980's a plan was made to isolate the dangerous place. The dump was covered with earth, foil, sand and then more earth with lakes. A new technology was discovered that turns new vegetation into peat. It appeared this perfectly isolates the toxics. Tests have proved that so far no venom was found in the surrounding polders, although they are 6 meters below the ground-level of the Volgermeer. The area is now a new nature reserve.
De Volgermeerpolder staat bekend als het grootst vervuilde stuk Nederland. Dat nu na sanering weer toegankelijk is. De Volgermeer ligt in de gemeente Amsterdam aan de uiterste noordgrens tegen Broek in Waterland. Aan de oostkant ligt de Poppendammerweeren, een agrarisch gebied. Ten westen ligt de lager gelegen Burkmeer. De Volgermeerpolder is ruim 100 hectare groot. Het gebied is tot februari 1981 als stortplaats gebruikt voor de gemeente Amsterdam. Het ligt midden in het beschermd gebied Landschap Waterland, dat door het Rijk is aangewezen als beschermd landschap en natuurgebied. Er is gesaneerd door middel van de zogenaamde "eco-variant": De Volgermeerpolder is afgedekt met een isolerende, waterremmende laag die contact met de gifstoffen in de bodem uitsluit. De nieuwe Volgermeer ligt hoger dan het omringende landschap. Op dit hoge gebied houdt een netwerk van dijkjes regenwater vast, dat gunstig is voor de gewenste natuur- en veenontwikkeling. Het opgetilde waterlandschap maakt het gebied bijzonder. De dijkjes nodigen wandelaars uit door het gebied te zwerven en van de natuur te genieten. Lepelaars, eenden en futen, kikkers en libellen. De zeldzame Noordse woelmuis scharrelt rond in de rietlanden. Ook is een groot deel van het gebied afgedekt met een droge leeflaag. Dit zijn vooral vlinderrijke graslanden. Op sommige plaatsen zijn keien en wat struweel aangebracht. Dit is goed om de ringslang een goed leefgebied te geven. Ook de droge gebieden nodigen wandelaars uit rond te gaan zwerven.

This smart little boat has been on the river for a little while now, this the first time I've seen it on the move.
I don't know whose it is, or its age, although it looks new ! There's a website for Bulldog Boats which identifies the model, so it's a fast crew vessel and made of plastic...well, HPDE (high density polyethylene). It's one of a number of vessels working on a cable being laid between Germany and the Isle of Grain, which is at the mouth of the Thames: Neuconnect Nearshore Cable Works. It's a "high voltage submarine cable" able to carry electricity to/from Wilhelmshaven.
According to www, Tarow may be a Cornish word but no hint as to its meaning...

I started collecting plastic bottle caps (the HDPE one's) last year. I planned to remelt them into handles for tools, but I also had some other ideas of how to utilize them. One of them was to put somehow the separate caps together to form a sheet out of them, and I had a somewhat different idea on how to make that, but suddenly I found out a lot easier way. For these, you'll need the plastic caps themselves and the plastic rings that go with them on every bottle. The first method of connecting caps together, let's call it a "triangular ring method," is the easiest one. It gives you three connections at every cap. You can't make more than three connections with this method because the limitations that the length of the ring applies (unless you use zip-ties or like to make things unnecessarily complicated). For this, every cap needs some preparation. First of all, you'll need to put holes on the sides of the cap. Those caps usually have some marks, or segmented screw wich can help to space holes evenly. Make sure that the size of a hole allows you to put two plastic rings snuggly in it. Then make cuts from the outer rim of a cap down to each hole for inserting the ring. You can understand how to put caps together from the photo below. It actually works as a sort of a conductor. You can also make dimensional objects with this technic (see my attempts at the pictures). As I mentioned earlier, you can use zip-ties instead of rings from a bottle. In this case, you don't need to make cuts at the rim of the cap to put it in; This makes the whole piece more reliable. But even with the bottle rings, it holds together very firmly.
If you want to go fancy, you can use the method I called "the knot in the cap" (you can see examples of photos). It allows you to get 3, 4 or even five connections at every cap and I imagine that by combining that number you can create smooth dimensional surfaces and use the whole idea in a more artistic way. The knot in the cap method also gives you more reliable structure because of the absence of the rim cuts.
So this is it for now. I'll keep collecting caps for further experiments, and I'll show you what I get in the future someday. Also, contact me if you have interesting ideas and suggestion on this.

Put T Leatherworks mudflaps on it, my HDPE experiments all split down the middle. Small wheels fling shit *everywhere*, it's almost unrideable in wet without fenders.
Without flaps they just combat skunk stripe and keep the steel part of the frame from getting filthy, anyone behind you gets full blast to the face and you get sprayed to the knee.
Also swapped the old DA 12-25 cassette for a new Ultegra 11-28, shifting improved dramatically and that one extra gear makes all the difference for staying seated on the steep grades in/out of my house.
The 11t didn't fully resolve the chain/seatstay interference, hopefully respacing the hub to 132.5 to match the frame by shortening the nds endcap will make it clear.

How much 'recycleable waste' needs to go into a recycle wheelie bin to make the plastic bin equal out?

Some are supplied in bright colours that clash with the house. LIke purple!
Are wheelie bins made of recycled plastic?
No .. apparently wheelie bins recycleable are made from HDPE, a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum. It takes 1.75 kilograms of petroleum (in terms of energy and raw materials) to make one kilogram of HDPE.
So apparently all these "green recycle wheelie bins" are made from Petrol ...
If a standard bin weighs 120kg, that 210kg of petrol (in terms of energy and raw materials) . Apparently BP say 1L of petrol weighs 750 g, so 210kg of petrol is 2.8 litres. In the UK that's £2.68 ish.
So they are not made from recycled plastic at all ! I wonder how long they last for ?! Can wheelie bins be made into wheelie bins? How many bins are out there? How much 'recycleable waste' needs to go into a recycle wheelie bin to make the plastic bin equal out?

You can buy your own bins, they are about 30-50 quid.
You can get them in many colours. Check with your council first. You can't have a blue one for rubbish and an orange one for recycleing, the bin men will be confussed.
You can buy stickers to make them look like a rose bush etc.
You can buy stensils to paint for example a cartoon picture with your house number on it.
Some bins are chipped, so the council know how much weight you chuck out, so if you throw out some old potatoes one day, you'll may be charged for the collection service in the future.
