Hawkwind - JUNE '74 De Doelen, Rotterdam (The Netherlands)

In March 2011, Hawkwind embarked on a sold out Australian tour. Since early 2011 Hone has primarily played bass onstage, while Mr. Dibs has moved to a more traditional lead singer role, while still playing bass, baritone guitar and cello on occasion. April 2012 saw the release of a new album, Onward, on the Plastichead's Eastworld Records imprint. Keyboardist Dead Fred rejoined Hawkwind for the 2012 tour in support of Onward and has continued to perform with the band since

Best I could recover on the scanner from some appaling old pictures but I thought it might be of interest. This is the 'Atom Henge' tour. They were hollow fibre-glass columns with different coloured lights inside and they had spanning sections to join them together at the top but the stage at the Kursaal wasn't big enough for the whole construction. Seen here during assembly in the afternoon.

Taken with a galaxy s7 held (very briefly) just above head height. Wasn't intending to take any pix but lots were doing the same & neither the band nor venue tried to discourage it.

I try and resist buying 7" singles on cost principle especially if postage has to be factored in,

This however was a must! My dad used to tell me the song was about a UFO well it turned out it was actually about a motorbike this picture disc a 1986 repressing of the 1972 hit that reached Number 3 in the charts being sung by Lemmy, legend goes Dave Brock got so annoyed he chucked Lemmy out the band he then formed Motorhead taking that name from another Hawkwind track.

Silver Machine appears on many albums and live albums its usually the Hawkwind encore closing song for a live set so my idea is to frame this disc in my man cave.

.....painting by Luke Haines. Hawkwind ascend over the grove - in their balloon. L - R, Rob Calvert, Dave Brock, Lemmy, Del Dettmar and Stacia.....As both a Luke Haines and a Hawkwind fan i'm well chuffed to have got my mitts on this painting from Luke Haines and Sian Pattendens outsider art shop/website. This is similar to the painting that features on the "The North Sea Scrolls" album sleeve/booklet........If you're a Hawkwind fan and you're looking at this wondering WTF?.....The North Sea Scrolls is an album by Luke Haines, Cathal Coughlan and Andrew Mueller which purports to tell an alternative history of the British Isles where among other things Enoch Powell joins Gong, The inmates at Broadmoor form a blues band, Chris Evans is burnt at the stake as a latter day Joan of Arc.......and the IRA have their own Australian tribute act!.....In an interview with The Guardian recently Luke Haines said " I wanted to make a record that made people go - What The Fuck? " - Mission accomplished i think!

At the amazingly good gig at the ABC - I haven't seen Hawkwind since, I think, 1978 in the Glasgow Apollo and I actually think that the gig on Thursday was better!
