This is what happens when I try to take a shortcut home to make it in time for dinner and end up choosing the least safe route. Sammy and I almost became dinner ourselves!

Athenatypes have been developed in tap water with a high pH-value, or also when rinsing with tap water at any stage before fixing.
To make it visible I have increased the iron stain a little in PS.
With slightly acidic developers the unexposed brushstrokes come out clean white.
“Most of the stuff people worry about never happens,”

But outside the window,
everything has already fallen apart.
Maybe it’s hope.
Maybe it’s irony.

The Arizona "Nonsoon" finally turned into a Monsoon!
The sky was starting to turn dark as I stuck my head outside yesterday afternoon, and the clouds were building up.
I ate a quick dinner then grabbed the gear and headed out. Went to a spot that I thought might be good and waited for the sun to go down. Once it was starting to dip below the horizon the storm started to kick in. I was able to get this shot and one other before the rain started pouring down on me in biblical proportions!
Hopefully this storm will be the catalyst that gets our proper monsoon season started.
Depiction of the Last Supper in the St. Janskerk in Gouda. The church in Gouda, Zuid-Holland, boasts a magnificent collection of 16th-century stained-glass windows of biblical and historical scenes. As often happened in those days, this one blends the two by showing Philip II (the infamous king of Spain) and his spouse Mary Tudor as direct witnesses of the Last Supper. As donators of the window they were entitled to a front row seat in any possible event, historical or other. The piety and act of faith shown here in this Dutch church shouldn't fool anybody as Philip became during his reign (1556-1598) by his ruthless policy one of the worst enemies of the Dutch and would eventually be kicked out of the country. The window was crafted by Dirk Crabeth in 1557.

Just standing around waiting for something to happen. Unexpected heritage leader, ditch lights on, and a sun hole at just the right place and time.
A CN hopper train blasts north through Dyersburg, TN en route to a whole day of sitting around at South Fulton, KY. Second best thing I saw all day.
I am so happy that I could almost cry this is the first photo of a damselfly that I’ve ever taken in my life. The only thing I did to this photo was crop it. I’m just amazed at how beautiful it came out, I hope you will be too!
The odd thing, the miracle is the fact that I was sitting on the porch flickering and I was admiring photos of dragonflies & damselflies, I said to myself “I haven’t seen a damselfly in this area but it would be nice to see one up close”. This little lovely fly must have been a guardian Angel because less than five minutes my want was granted. This scarlet beauty stayed still but also danced around from branch to branch. I haven’t gone through them yet, this is the very last shot I took.
I may not be able to thank everyone personally but I do try because I do appreciate you looking at my photograph, faving it, or commenting on it. I would love to know what you guys think. I don’t know about you but I’m tickled pink! THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Seen on my walk. I stopped short and stared at this for a moment. SOMETHING happened in the tree above. Was it a Cooper's Hawk snagging a bird for lunch? Or two squirrels settling a dispute over nesting material. Or....what?
We'll never know.

18th October 2020:
Well it had to happen sooner or later, the Sunday lunch photo that is!
Although I have to say that my personal chef did an excellent job today. Roast chicken, potato wedges and an extremely tasty mixed veg stir fry. A new one to us, with courgettes, beans, round carrots (which are fun) along with sweet corn and red and yellow peppers.
He did over do the potato wedges a bit, but they were good!!

I was in my backyard taking moon shots, as I often am in the habit of doing. It was not until I downloaded the images that I saw a small, black object in several frames. Upon enlarging the image, you can see the bat's outline, appearing to fly right past the moon and out of sight! This first shot is just the moon, but each of the following frames capture the bat's outline as it passes the moon!
Taken at 9:00 PM CST.
Orland Park, Illinois USA
*This was not "layered" into the images. The event is completely natural and I will probably never have the good fortune to have it happen again! My Canon EOS 7D Mark II gets 10 frames per second; the bat was in 8 frames of the ten!
Doing what we can until Spring finally arrives (which won't be for awhile...more snow is coming tonight or tomorrow).
Happy Wednesday to you all :) I'll be catching up today!!
Unless it happens to be the government's land! If that's the case then don't even think about landing here!
This was shot somewhere in the Oregon Coast range back in 2007. Going through some old photos and came across it.
Now that I think about it I guess it's nice of the government to tell me where I can go? There's no way I could figure it out for myself and we certainly wouldn't want to damage this prime piece of dirt!
It finally happened, 431 stalled on the Acton grade last night, forcing the two units (CN 2409, 9473) to back the train from near Acton back to CN Peel at the Bramalea Station. This morning a new crew was called to finish the trip, coming from Mac with extra power in the form of GP9u 4131. The unit are seen dragging their 8300 tons of freight through the street running portions of Guelph just west of mile 49 on what was one of the first sunny days we've seen in quite awhile.
A run out here this morning hoping for a good sunrise but it never happened still good to be out and not at work :)

I happened to notice this squirrel munching on a pine cone when I was following the flight of a crow. Couldn't help but think of the title, it is social distancing to the extreme. :-) Thank you for taking the time to view, fave and comment on my images. Stay safe and well.

There is nothing beautiful about war, not even when it happens in an exotic place like Hawaii. Nonotheless, wars have been all over human history. Some of the most important facts of our history were related to combats and their outcomes. And on this very day and this very place, 76 years ago a key combat took place: the battle of Pearl Harbor. The attack was a surprise military strike by the Japanese armed forces to a US naval base located in the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It was the critical event that led USA to enter World War II. Who won and who lost may be very important historically, however at the end of the day humanity lost as thousands of people died on that beautiful island. Lets hope that as human beings we learned from our mistakes in the past and that present and future generations wont have to live the horror of another world war. What you see in this photo is the Submarine Bowfin that was used in various operations during World War II by US Navy. It was built in Portsmouth Navy Yard in 1942 and decommissioned on 1947 after 9 successful patrols. At the background you can see Ford island where the main airstrip that was under attack was located. Most of the US combat ships that were torpedoed and sinked were anchored in the main water area of this frame. Among them was USS Arizona, a ship that visitors can see from above during the tour.
When the SOO Line was going to sell the line back in early 1996The UP ran this over the now Chicago Sub thru Hampshire. We all know what happened next.
The times an actual E-train runs the CV main (except E090) are few and far between but it does happen. Southbound CSX E736 knocks down the signal at South Baileys on the first leg of its trek between Corbin and Kingsport. This empty Middleton, SC train normally loads at Balkan on the CV main under an R symbol, but this train will load at Goff on the former C&O Coal Run subdivision; the first of a new contract. Why they chose to do it the hard way and run it via Hagans is beyond me, but it meant an additional train to shoot on the CV so I'm not complaining.

Been away a bit.
Baffled how it happened but the Monday after Christmas began coughing. Started as a tickle. Then turned croup like. Was able to get to urgent care that Thursday and a rapid test was positive for covid.
Because of my recent cancers I qualified for the myoclonal antibody treatment. Felt remarkably better for a bit.
But this sure has been a roller coaster.
I feel so bad for the unvaccinated. If I've been this awful after three Pfizers, I can't imagine surviving without having been vaxxed.
I had been given Prednisone for the croup/bronchial inflammation which I didn't start taking until I lost the sense of smell. Surprisingly the sense came back after two days.
A week after I showed symptoms, Kim showed, but hers were very different. She had severe nausea and headache. She hasn't had the respiratory involvement, but her test this past week was also positive. She's on the recovery roller coaster too.
Sometimes we feel some better, then it all hits again.
Been using our large gym ball to lie over. Way back at the beginning of the pandemic a bunch of us who had been Physical Therapists had talked about the importance of lying prone and the importance of postural drainage, which we used to do for patients in the hospital before Respiratory Therapy took it over.
Lying on one's chest on the ball supports the diaphragm and makes coughing more comfortable. Pushing forward to get the head low and butt high will help get secretions moving and excreted. Plus rolling on the ball is very good for the back.
I suppose my involvement here at Flickr will be a bit spotty for awhile yet. Hope everyone stays well.
This has been baffling. We've been masked whenever we've left the house. Kim goes to work but since she showed symptoms after me, I'm the likely one to have given it to her. In the week before showing symptoms I'd been once to the grocery store. And I've always double masked. I've always brought along my alcohol spray bottle to spray down the shopping carts.
One thing we haven't kept up is the wiping down of the grocery items before bringing them into the house. And we haven't been wiping down the Amazon packages that get delivered. But that method of transference has always been very low on the list. Being unmasked in a closed space has always been the chief method of transmission.
Go figure.
