I had been observing and photographing the Great Gray Owl on the right for about two hours, including as it made several strikes (at least two of which were successful). In this instance it seemed to be mantling (spreading its wings) as if over prey, and I was waiting for it to lift off. Suddenly the owl on the left in this image appeared ‘out of nowhere,’ flying low and fast and closing distance quickly. The owl on the right is just raising its wings to respond to this approach. I held down the shutter release and the following 10 images recorded the dramatic interaction that followed…

{For clarity, I will mention that no baiting, taped calls, or other unethical practises were used to obtain this and the following eleven images — just observation, patience, and a measure of luck.}

We had two days of blue skies and sunny weather, however, on the last day of our weekend in the Sauerland, the weather had changed overnight and it was misty and snowing.....

The going was tough.

The man in action is a cross-country skier.

( I added a bit more drama, but I'm sure you sense the atmosphere....)

Had to make a couple of deliveries today and just happened to arrive at one location when this beautiful Western Hognose snake was about to be fed. I apologize if this is upsetting for some, it took me a long time to get used to serving partially eviscerated rats and mice to birds of prey when I was helping rehab them - I always had misgivings, but there is always a food chain in nature. This snake is venomous to amphibians but has never been known to kill a human. Thanks to Billie for correct ID.

I think I had a good talking to, and when all seemed lost, I became inspired! Or perhaps it was the very nice bottle of Carnivor Zinfandel I returned to that had the desired effect. I had got rather sick of daffodils, but regurgitated versions of this seemed to improve the more I fiddled.......or drank. It's a panormaniacal shot of course.

Had an incredible time with this female bobcat one morning this spring. I was with her for more than an hour (and thousands of shots of course). With the spring colors in the front, that was my favorite setting this morning. Northern California

Had three of them checking out the nesting platform. Lake is open as you can see with the catch. Isle Lake Alberta

The view from my office window ... in the end it wasn't half as spectacular as it looked (at least not for us)... luckily somehow :-)

Old Magoo had the little cone flowers surrounded, hoping to score an insect or two - but wait, the Wiley fellows were playing hard to get and had their compound eyes on him from the shadows and were laughing their little antennae off. Eventually patience and an empty memory card gave way to pleasure and I snapped this one before moving on. It meant I had the flash and diffuser on which I wouldn’t normally use for a flower, but I like the way this one turned out and it brought up some nice detail on the little cone……

I had some old bagels and I took them with me during my walk today. I broke them and I throw the pieces in a field for the crows. Immediately a red kite flew very low to see what it was about. Much later I was in a park where children where playing. I saw a red kite gliding on them. I saw that it was grabbing something with its claws. Every so often it was pecking at it. I took some photos. When later I downloaded the photos I could see it was carrying and eating one piece of bagel.

I had an early morning wander over the common to catch the last of the autumn colours and was lucky enough to see quite a bright moon.

We had an absolutely incredible sunset yesterday. All through the day we had some incredible cloud formations and I was hoping they would stick around for sunset. They obviously did.

Also, I ordered a new Nikon D7000. It will arrive today, so this may be the last shot I ever take with my old D80. It's been a great camera, but it's time for an upgrade...and I've already got a buyer for it. I can't wait to get my D7000 in my hands and begin putting it through it's paces.

UPDATE: I now have my new D7000 in my hands. The battery isn't even charged yet, but I can already tell how awesome it is. :-)

Had an early morning the other day, and the sunrise was fantastic! Wishing everybody a wonderful weekend :)

Ok, I know something completely different from me...not a bird, flower or cat in sight LOL.

Had to split my in-flight album as almost near 500 shots so now its small & large birds in-flight. Catching up :)

Had these done for about a week but had to wait for that darn wheelchair. There's about a month away until the movie so there's still a chance I'll make some more figures ;) also I know logans hair isn't accurate. My spikey hair looked weird on him. Please comment if u like :)

Had some lovely comments from you of the otter cubs. Here they have spotted mum on her way back.

Always appreciate your comments and faves.

Many thanks.

I had decided to just take a straight ahead comp with no rule of thirds, just what I saw as I saw it to give everyone and idea of the large number of birds and huge sun. The picture still doesn't do it justice.

We had a lot of luck on Venus

We always had a ball on Mars

Had a couple of hours on a beach as the tide was going out and became totally engrossed in the sand ripples that had been formed, took far too many images.

Having a go with a large border on this image, not sure if it works or not.

Main lens of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra using MotionCam for this rather dark environment

We had the most wonderful weather yesterday, sunny, clear sky and the snow still hanging in there. It is hard to not use the camera...fact is that i think i have never been so slow on the snow mobile .. lol

I had a blast running my SPC 2-6-0 over the weekend. This loco has an RC system for the throttle, reverser, and whistle.

I was able to achieve a nice, steady, slow run and was quite happy to get a solid run in for an hour with just a few stops for water to be sure things were good in the boiler.

Had a very busy four days down west wales I've had stars, sunsets and wildlife. You really cant beat it :)

Had my second trip to smoker and it didn't disappoint! Couldn't believe how many sand eels this Puffin had in its beak!

Had to lay very low to be able to shoot from this POV.

Had 10 backyard visitors this afternoon, Use my window filter to get some shots. St.Albert Alberta

I had a family of these little guys running around my campsite. Their constant visits brought me so much joy. I hope they are still doing ok!

Taken at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, in Alberta, Canada.

Never had a checkered-skipper give me this perspective before - out on the wild verbena.

Have a Warmer Wednesday!

My master had already turned in for the evening and left me here to practice. Practice, practice, practice! For hours I practiced my magic until finally that flicker of light escaped my fingers. With a gasp, I concentrated on that exact feeling and how it felt to feel the magic move through my fingertips. Biting my lower lip, I released the magic within and saw magic coming to life before my very eyes! Tentacles emerged from the book I was holding, sloshing water everywhere! I did it! I did it! Oh wait...ah shit, they won't stop growing! How the hell do I make it stop?! Help!

I had bought a new pillow for the bench on the porch and the old one was destined for the bin when Fynn discovered it and decided to take a nap on it. Turned out that he couldn't sleep, though, as the Easter Bunny and Crazy Bird kept watching him and by doing so they apparently made him nervous. :)

Had a fantastic shooting with a bobcat on that evening when that cat started to call and disappeared into the bushes. I heard a second cat responding to its calls and went looking...i found that female bobcat in a tree, with 600mm i was so close. After a while they both continued their way. What a magic bobcat evening again...Northern California

Had a great day traveling across I-70, especially that part through my home state of Utah. Definitely got a little exercise as I made several stops and hiked to areas I wanted to photograph from. Took over 150 pictures to day. I'll post a few more some other time. Still sorting and deciding which I like best.

Had a few good friends at my set up today always a bit nerve racken but kingy didnt let me down one of over a thousand images taken in a good three hour session

Had a great trip this week to Lake Erie with flickr friend Stew Hooey. Great to get away for a day.

had a few hours on garden with weather being so bad

Had an off day so took a walk in the Palace Park. Trying to get familiar with the Canon 70D.

:-)

I had never before seen a horned ghost crab (ocypode ceratophthalmus) when I spotted this one on the beach at Belle Mare, on the island of Mauritius. Luckily, I was able to lie face down in the sand to get a shot as the tiny animal approached. It scuttled off to the left immediately after this moment.

Had the pleasure of THREE hawks playing around in the back yard this morning. Over 1000 photos taken and one of the best hours of my life. An amazing start to the day!

Had an enchanting encounter with a Townsend's Solitaire

Had the pleasure of visiting this place as I was in Donegal at the weekend. To be honest I had never heard of the place but I'm glad I found it and made the trip.

These cliffs are among the highest in Europe and are almost three times the height of the more famous Cliffs of Moher. No photo will ever do this place justice, well, mine certainly won't lol.

It's hard to believe that sights like this are a few hours drive away!

Had a walk down Wakering Stairs with my camera this morning, don't faint people lol, it was very cold but dry and sunny.

The tide was just starting to ebb, the waders were eagerly waiting for the sand to appear, this juvenile Redshank looked wonderful in the low winters sun.

Had a bird book given to me for my birthday, hope I got the correct name for this bird.
