Scorpion Gulch at South Mountain Park, Phoenix, Arizona is an old abandoned store built of rock walls.
Leslie Gulch is a canyon in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. It is on the east side of Owyhee Lake, a reservoir on the Owyhee River. Its abundant and striking rock formations are made of tuff.
The gulch was named after a local rancher, Hiram E. Leslie, who was hit by lightning here in 1882. Previously it had been called "Dugout Gulch."
Last leg of our Southeast Oregon Tour of 2022.
Unfortunately, we battled with wildfire smoke everywhere we went in Oregon. Many photos were taken through closed and tinted car windows, which made for some very unclear and distorted colors. Still, it was a wonderful trip and we saw many landscapes and wildlife that we would have missed had we stayed away this year.
BNSF 9039 leads a manifest down the Marshall Subdivision at Garretson, South Dakota and crossing a scenic spot over Devil's Gulch, the famed creek where Jesse James coaxed his horse to jump over the gap cut through quartzite while escaping the robbery in Northfield, Minnesota. The Great Northern similarly jumped over the Devil's Gulch with a clear view of the Split Rock River as seen below in the background.

My Dad and I hit this spot just right. We sat at this spot for a few hours , ate lunch , and took multiple frames . The wind died long enough to get some awesome shots. The road to get here is sketchy . No 4x4 , no can do.
This area is my secret. It doesn't get many visitors, so I will just let it stay that way. Always check it out every year.
Maybe you have been here? Maybe you can find it?
A BNSF coal train heading back to receive another load passes over Marent Gulch on the MRL 10th Sub behind one of BNSF's 25th anniversary sticker units. I still prefer the Santa Fe Warbonnets like the one trailing third.
This gulch goes by a mine and ends up in Animas Forks Ghost Town. Down near Animas is the road that goes to Placer Gulch.
The stream by the road is the West Fork of the Animas River.

During the big snowstorm in Vegas, I headed right out towards Death Valley. I would photograph familiar places covered with snow - by the time I got to Shoshone it was evident that the snow missed DV. I thought I would take a few shots anyway.
The raven kept flying around and got in several images. In ancient Rome, priests (called Augers) predicted the future by observing the flight of birds. The bird indeed prophesied the future - that I would have lunch across the street at the (world famous) Crowbar.
Scorpion Gulch is and old abandoned store/home at South Mountain Park in Phoenix, Arizona. This rock wall building no longer has a roof.
Hurricane Bridge over Hurricane Gulch is an iconic spot on the Alaska Railroad. Sought out regularly by visitors for photos. The railroads namesake passenger train stops daily on the bridge for an opportunity to take this scene in and what a beauty it is. However if you want to see something other than a passenger train on this bridge then you will need to stop by in the middle of the night. The Alaska Railroad's Anchorage-Fairbanks freight crosses the bridge at 0144 in the morning on 6.26.24
A night hike led me to this view of the sandstone formations at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park. In the gulch the eroded ground was very hard as if packed by a steam roller. The mounds of sandstone are off limits to hiking. So with respect to the land, I snapped some panoramas from the gulch. The moon wasn't due out for another 2.5 to 3 hours, and the wind was picking up. It was getting colder and I was getting hungry.
A 5 shot panorama of the foreground with a 12mm ultra wide lens, and 10 shot panorama of the night sky shot at 28mm (DX) lens. The sky was shot at Mojave National Preserve in April 2017. The main foreground was shot in December 2015. Edited in Lightroom, auto stitched in Microsoft ICE, and layered in Corel Paintshop.
On a clear night in Death Valley a lot of stars appear after twilight. Even in Dec when most of the Milky Way is below the horizon, it's sill visible going across the sky.
Here's a link to my Death Valley Video:
Thanks for viewing.

Corkscrew Gulch is one of my favorite drives, especially when you throw in Hurricane Pass and California Pass to Animas Forks Ghost Town.
This combination is the first trails I do every year I go to the San Juan Mountains.

I shot this from Stony Pass Road. It is turnoff for the road is off the Animas Forks to Silverton road. You can drive a car short ways up this road.
Just off the trail a couple of miles south of the Buckskin Gulch trailhead, House Rock Valley Road, Utah.
Hiked a couple miles in this gulch, which is one of several trails in Leslie Gulch. Interesting and beautiful area - so glad we took time to spend more than just a drive-through.
Another shot from my backpacking trip in Coyote Gulch. This is the most photogenic spot in the canyon, and one of the best spots I've seen in the Southwest.
Helena started out as a mining town after gold was found in a creek in 1865. The men who discovered the gold named the area Last Chance Gulch. In a few years several thousand people lived in Helena drawn to the gold strike. Montana became a territory in 1864. Initially, the territorial capital was established in Virginia City. But with the mining and population boom in Helena and decline of mining elsewhere the decision was made to move the capital to Helena. Helena is currently the 6th largest city in Montana with a population of 33,525. The area of Last Chance Gulch has remained a symbol of the town's rough and tumble beginnings and is full of shops, bars and restaurants catering to the tourist trade.

The little rock pinnacle in the centre of the frame is pretty much where I shot the previous posting of the Milky Way from.

Leslie Gulch, Oregon is a narrow canyon full of interesting rock formations. I visited it two days at different times of the day and it's appearances were quite different. Per wikipedia: "Leslie Gulch is a canyon in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. It is on the east side of Owyhee Lake, a reservoir on the Owyhee River. Its abundant and striking rock formations are made of tuff.

This is the view from the Imogene Pass Overlook. The overlook is a short distance from the top of Imogene. I believe it is higher than the pass, which is 13,114 feet high.
Down below from here is the MDH. I am also making a guess that this is Corkscrew Gulch, which is in the 13,000 foot range.
If you zoom into the center left of the photo you can see Corkscrew Gulch.
This is another photo of my favorite spot.
I am really posting this so I could post a link that shows the roads I drive in the San Juans. It has great music and the drone pilot is incredible.

This was the view when leaving Isla Cuale from the Iguana Bridge. This region is known as Gringo Gulch for its high standard houses.
