We met a very nice Icelandic man who had now emigrated to the US. He was originally from this area and it was great to have him do a guided tour of the geothermic area. He also most kindly offered to carry all of us (the two of us and our friends the cyclists) over the freezing water.

Today we went Mountain Sledding and Snow Tubing at Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge and SarvesAlta in Alta Norway.
We start our day by having breakfast at BjornFjell Mountain Lodge and then head to the ski slopes for our mountain sledding. We rode the T Bar lift to the top of the hill, unfortunately Holly fell off and needed to be brought to the top on a snow cat.
The mountain sledges were very fast we were told that at one point I easily passed the guide on the snowcat who was doing 50 kph.
After Mountain Sledding for an hour and a half we went back to our Mountain Hut at Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge for a bit before driving into Alta for our lunch at a local grill called SMAK.
After lunch we went back to the SarvesAlta ski resort and hired their snow tubes and for the next two hours we had a load of fun going up and down the slopes snow tubing.
Snowtubing was one of the must fun activities we did the whole trip and all of us loved it.
We spend the evening at our mountain hut at Bjornfjell Mountain Lodge.

Our guide said it was an unusually large group of orcas, and she surmized that it was possibly a meeting of two pods. It felt like we had crashed a family reunion.
I went whale watching with my niece and her husband in late Aug.
We saw a humpback whale as we crossed the Strait of Georgia and what seemed to be a largish group of transient orcas just off the coast from Mill Bay on Vancouver Island.
