So my life has been studying, laundry, studying, studying, psychology homework, trial questions(I'm taking law) and more studying.
I have been falling behind because of the sports team I was on (thankfully the season is over) and now I've just been slacking.. but no more! I get my midterm marks in about a week Monday, and I know my marks aren't going to be in the eighties, probably not even the seventies.. which is a new low for me. How have I managed to do this to myself in my most important year of highschool?
If it weren't for these chocolate treats I'd be dead right now.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association was founded in New Brighton in 1931.
The statue has been relocated to a new, prominent position outside the doors of the new Floral Pavilion Theatre and Conference Centre New Brighton.
Travel Guide: Ruta 11 (Arica to Bolivian Border)
Ruta 11-CH is a vital commercial artery and a world-class scenic drive. It takes you from the Pacific coast through the hyper-arid Atacama Desert, into the "Candelabro" cactus forests, and finally onto the high Altiplano.
Route Overview
Distance: ~192 km (120 miles)
Starting Point: Arica (Sea Level)
Ending Point: Paso Chungará–Tambo Quemado (4,680m / 15,354ft)
Drive Time: 4–5 hours (direct), but 2+ days is recommended for acclimatization.
️ Key Stops & Highlights
1. Lluta Valley (Km 0–40)
The route begins in the fertile Lluta Valley. Look for Geoglyphs (ancient ground drawings) on the hillsides. It is the last green area you will see for a long time.
2. Quebrada de Cardones (Km 65)
Located at roughly 2,500m elevation. This is the "Kingdom of the Candelabro Cactus." These massive, multi-armed cacti can grow up to 5 meters tall and are endemic to this specific elevation band.
3. Putre (Km 127)
Elevation: 3,500m
Putre is the "capital" of the Altiplano and is the essential stop for anyone driving this route.
Acclimatization: Do not skip spending at least one night here before heading higher.
Vibe: A charming Aymara village with narrow streets and colonial architecture.
Facilities: Last reliable spot for food, water, and basic lodging.
4. Lauca National Park (Km 145–190)
This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is the crown jewel of the route.
Las Cuevas: A short walk to see viscachas (rabbit-like rodents) and thermal springs.
Lago Chungará: One of the highest lakes in the world (4,517m). The reflection of the Payachata Volcanoes (Parinacota and Pomerape) in the water is iconic.
Wildlife: Keep an eye out for Vicuñas (wild relatives of llamas), Guanacos, and Andean Flamingos.
5. Parinacota Village
A tiny, picturesque village 5km off the main road. Its 17th-century church is made of stone and mud with a thatched roof, featuring unique "dance of death" murals inside.
🚧 Driving Conditions & Safety
Heavy Traffic: This is the primary route for Bolivian freight. You will share the road with hundreds of heavy trucks. Passing is difficult on the narrow, winding mountain sections.
Road Health: While paved, the road faces extreme weather. Landslides or "socavones" (sinkholes) can occur during the "Altiplanic Winter" (January–March) due to heavy rains.
The "Caracol": There are intense hairpin turns as you climb out of the valleys. Use low gears to descend to avoid overheating brakes.
No Fuel: There are no gas stations between Arica and the border. Fill up completely in Arica. Some locals in Putre may sell fuel from drums in an emergency, but don't count on it.
Altitude Sickness (Puna)
Going from sea level to 4,600m in one day is dangerous.
Symptoms: Headache, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath.
Prevention: Drink double the usual amount of water. Eat light meals (low fat). Avoid alcohol.
Remedy: Coca tea (mate de coca) is widely available in Putre and highly effective. If symptoms become severe, the only real cure is to descend immediately.
🛂 Border Crossing: Chungará–Tambo Quemado
Operating Hours: The border currently operates 24/7 for most traffic, though it's always wise to check for temporary closures due to extreme weather or maintenance.
Customs: Chile has extremely strict phytosanitary rules (SAG). You cannot bring any fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, or honey from Bolivia into Chile. Everything will be X-rayed.
Paperwork: If driving a rental car, you need a specific notarized permit (Permiso de Salida del Vehículo) from the rental agency to cross into Bolivia. Standard insurance rarely covers this.
