This friendly little pooch joined us for about 5 miles of an 8 mile walk round Loch Coulin. Nobody else around, just wanted some company I think. Very sweet.

Dec. 22, 2010, 7:37 p.m. These two guide dogs are working (in harness) and are wonderfully trained. Staff and runners at the Running Room store love to see them, but are careful not to interfere with their work.

Gymnocalycium is a genus of cacti that is native to South America and is known for its special and appealing flowers. The name "Gymnocalycium" originates from the Greek words "gymno," indicating "naked," and "calyx," implying "cup." This describes the naked or hairless, flower buds that lie at the top of the stem.
The Gymnocalycium types are defined by their round or round stems and their small size, making them popular among cactus lovers as well as those who want to add an exotic touch to their house or garden. They are likewise easy to care for, making them a great option for beginner cactus growers.
The flowers of Gymnocalycium are typically brilliantly colored and can range in color from red, orange, yellow, pink, and white. They normally flower in the spring and summer seasons and can last for several weeks. The flowers are normally followed by little, edible fruits that are enjoyed by birds and other wildlife.
One of the most popular species of Gymnocalycium is Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, likewise referred to as the "Moon Cactus." This species is identifiable for its bright red or yellow spherical stem and its small, yellow flowers. Another popular species is Gymnocalycium friedrichii, which has a bluish-green stem and pink flowers.
Gymnocalycium is fairly easy to take care of and can be grown in a range of conditions. They choose bright, indirect light and well-draining soil.
