We left Marrakech behind us and started the first leg of our road trip in the High Atlas Mountains. Skit has pretty much the only photo we took from that bit in her stream so I will jump ahead to the next stretch- the road of a thousand kasbahs.
Aït Benhaddou was the only location where we accepted a local guide though this was kind of not through choice- we didn't really know what we were doing. We had read so many scare stories about cars being broken into that we handed cash over to the nearest local we could see when we parked. And when Assan (?) started to take us on a tour, we kind of just went along with it and spent the next half hour worried about how much to pay. Still, he didn't actually disappoint in showing us the place and it was somewhat nice to speak to a local. I think I gathered from him that a few people still live here but most abandoned the place to move to the other side of the river. It seemed rational to just start afresh rather than maintain aging buildings though it is very different from the UK where such a thing is not possible.
The Adventure Guides & Princesses program provides fathers and their children the opportunity to spend valuable time together. As part of a larger group, both father and child create unforgettable memories playing games, spending the weekend at an overnight camp, family adventures, and much more.
Load leveller sounds an intriguing device. I'm guessing much of this was developed and offered by the UK importer.
Our guides told us that if everybody could go and see him whenever they wanted it would be chaos. Therefore people are 'invited' (or forced, depends on how you look at it) to go there a year or so beforehand. The women are all dressed in their traditional Korean dresses (hanbok) and the men all wear the same suit (in the typical Kim Il Sung/Kim Jong Il style). The tourists and the North Koreans are kept apart and use different conveyor belts. Strangely enough we seemed to be allowed to go first, while they had to wait.

When Plymouth Citybus withdrew and sold its open top MCW Atlanteans around 1989 Guide Friday operated a mixed bag of ex Nottingham and Portsmouth Atlanteans in the city for about 6 years on open top tours. IN 1996 however three East Lancs bodied Atlanteans were open topped and operated by Citybus on behalf of Guide Friday for about 4 years before being sold off when the service was withdrawn. One of the examples was 159 ODV 203W the others 160/1 ATK 160/1W 159 is now in Snowdonia and 161 in Leicester -160 ? c Gareth Ruby

The thing that made me snort today: the person who wrote "I love you" with an arrow pointing to J.R. Ewing on a 1987 TV Guide cover. I don't think it was the oldster that formerly owned this issue.
Two years ago, Knopf commissioned me to take a bunch of photos of specific sights and sites around the city for the 2006 edition of Knopf Guides: New York. I shot the Queen Mary, Times Square, Mark Morris, etc.
I finally found a copy of the published book, and about thirteen of my shots are in the final copy. Here are samples I scanned, above and one page back and two pages back.
Not great art, but fun to see anyway! And a lot of fun to shoot.
One of my guides during the trip. People usually assume travelling in North Korea entails having minders with you that control everything you do and are generally nasty people. My guides were actually genuinely nice people who spoke freely about everything.

I had a long transit in Singapore, so I jumped on the free 2 hour tour into the city. The first hour was waiting for the group to assemble and to get through security with special visas. Once on the bus we were served a lot of stuff that sounded suspiciously like good old propaganda. But the guide slipped once, which was a good one.
Driving past the university being told how fantastic, great and awesome it is -
Tourist lady: Is it free to study?
Guide: Nothing in Singapore is free! Only free bus tour!
