After Canadian National took over the Wisconsin Central, there were a frw years when varied consists were an everyday thing.
Nearing Aptakisic Road in Buffalo Grove, a short CN northbound had a trio of variety.
Trailing Wisconsin Central SD45 7502 was Duluth Winnepeg and Pacific SD40 5908 and a CN grey cinderblock SD40.
The consist was set up from best to worst.
A small grove of trees close to my house which I paid a visit to one evening last week.
As the season moves on and the evenings draw out we can see the sun setting more to the West North West now rather that winters South West, the season may have moved on but it`s still raining and blowing a gale. Many years ago there were a lot of farms in this area, and think there may have been something here back then as evidenced by the crumbling flint walls in front of my camera . Tomorrow a one off but something completely different

Forest Grove #5 opened for rural students in 1873 north of Pleasant Valley, Iowa. It served the area until 1957. It fell into disrepair for decades until restoration began in 2012 and was completed a couple years later. This is what Forest Grove looks like today.

I've always liked urban skyline backdrops for trains so even though nothing is moving here I still like the overall scene. This view looks south off the St. Anthony Parkway overpass from the little railfan park south of Northtown Yard. A pair of BNSF GP39-3s (rebuilt Santa Fe GP35s) sit beside the little Grove Yard office while a tagged up caboose still in BN Cascade green sits by itself. Trackage extends south out of Grove Yard and curves west crossing the Mississippi on the old Northern Pacific bridge to reach a couple customers in North Minneapolis.
As for the skyline, the tallest buildings in the city are visible including the 57 story, 792 ft IDS Center at right which has been the tallest in the the state of Minnesota since 1973. On the left side is the 776 ft Capella Tower dating from 1992 and the second tallest and in the center at number three and only one foot shorter is the Wells Fargo Center dating from 1988.

My first foray onto the BNSF Wayzata Sub after living in the state for 6 years was relatively fruitful, with an afternoon NTWLIN appearing with a super clean BNSF 700 leading.

Autumn in a quiet evening aspen grove in the Eastern Sierra Nevada.
It is easy to focus on the largest and most impressive elements of the Sierra Nevada landscape — I know that I often do. The range is full of rugged peaks, deep valleys, forests draped across miles of terrain, and more. But eventually, if you spend enough time in this landscape, it becomes apparent that there are things to see (and photograph) almost everywhere… and not just in the iconic places. If you asked me where this photograph was made, I could tell you the precise location — but why? There are countless equivalent scenes all over the range!
The photograph illustrates another principle of photographing such subjects: sometimes “bad light” is actually good light. I made the photograph after the sun had set behind the surrounding tall mountains, as the day’s light was quickly fading. But I love photographing trees — especially autumn aspen trees — in this marginal and soft light. The harsh highlights and shadows are gone and gentle light suffuses the scene.

The grove of love in south-western Poland. Absolutely phenomenal place, although seen only from a bird`s eye view. The heart-shaped grove was supposedly created naturally, without human intervention. The grove lies in the middle of a large rapeseed.

Mono Lake. This was taken just before dawn.
These tufas are estimated to be 200-900 years old. They were actually created underwater and only were made more visible (many are now on dry land) because of the dwindling water level. It's a lake that could've vanished altogether if the Los Angeles DWP was allowed to freely divert its feeder rivers. In the late 70's, several groups, including the National Audobon Society sued the DWP over draining the lake, essentially saving it from the same fate as the now mostly dry Owens Lake, located further south. However, the drought has led to continuing drops in the water level.

A particularly elegant and serene-looking stand of trees, on the hillside overlooking the Hudson River at Untermyer Gardens Conservancy. I wish I knew what kind of trees they are. One photo a day. (249/366) Yonkers, NY -- September 5, 2020

Another print given to me recently sees Preston Station platform 5 and Stanier Black Five 44848 arriving on 1Z09 special. This must date from between 1963 and 1968 because the loco is showing shed plate 10F which was Rose Grove between these dates. Before it was 24B and 10F was Lower Ince! A bit tarted up on the smokebox. This loco lasted until the last year of steam operation in 1968.
