the entire structure is grounded for protection against lightning strikes. this copper cable, which extends to twenty feet below the surface, will eventually be attached to the steel columns which will be bolted to the pier.
Grounding is a process of connecting a facility’s electrical system to the ground to carry unexpected electrical charges safely to the ground without harming any other source. Grounding rods are essential for any facility and choosing the right grounding rod material is of utmost importance. Chemical grounding rods can provide a permanent soil treatment solution for a low impedance ground. You may consider our patented Chem-Rod. Contact LEC and transform your grounding system into a high-performance ground. Contact us right now for more details: www.lightningprotection.com/grounding-rod-can-save-your-l...

Lightning rods are installed on a roof as network of interconnected rods and grounded to an appropriately designed grounding system. The aim of the lightning rod is to become the point of discharge of the bolt in order to achieve a controlled impact without damage. As the lightning strikes this rod, static energy is safely grounded, protecting the facility from damage. LEC's system lowers the static field in the protected area long enough for the lightning strike to terminate outside the protected area.Lightning rod protection is important to prevent accidents from happening. Launched in 1939, one of the ferry's early jobs was that it was used to transport servicemen to and from the Royal Navy's giant inland harbour base at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands.
It is believed to have been involved in evacuation of Dunkirk too.
"On Sunday, May 25, 1940, churches were full as people prayed for deliverance. Two things helped the rescue mission – a great storm broke over Flanders, grounding most of the Luftwaffe. This was followed by a great calm in the English Channel.
The Durham Light Infantry and the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers were both heavily involved in the great retreat through France, fighting off the Germans all the way to Dunkirk.
Sgt-Major Martin McLane, 2nd Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, had a crystal clear memory when he talked to the Chronicle a few years ago.
Towards the end of May 1940, Byker-born Martin McLane’s unit was on the banks of Belgium’s River Dyle where the 2nd Division of the British Expeditionary Force was engaging the enemy.
The DLI was ordered to withdraw. Sgt-Major McLane and his platoon marched where directed, however aimless it seemed. There was no transport available. The roads were clogged with civilians trying to escape.
Eventually, the division took up positions on the banks of a canal. The retreat, it had been decided, would stop here. The reality was very different.
Sgt-Major McLane found himself in command of his platoon. Many officers had been killed or become separated from their men.
It was soon learned that German tanks had crossed the canal. “We knew, then, that we were in for it. We had no anti-tank guns, no artillery . . .
“We could hear tanks rumbling in the distance and saw them appearing.”
With a lack of ammunition and food, the British troops began to withdraw. Reluctantly, Sgt-Major McLane suggested the only action was to issue the order, “Every man for himself”, the point at which an orderly withdrawal becomes a disorderly retreat.
Out of a company strength of around 100, just nine men got away. The 2nd DLI was reduced from a fighting establishment of around 700 to 57 men.
There were still no orders. But everybody began heading in the same direction.
He then found the officer and the other Sgt-Majors had vanished. He stopped a passing lorry to see if he could find out what was happening. A young officer said: “Everyone’s got to make for the beaches of Dunkirk. They’re going to try to evacuate the British Army.”
It was the first McLane had heard of Dunkirk or evacuation.
But the fighting was over. Sgt-Major McLane commandeered two lorries and told his men to get in. Through a misunderstanding, they left without him. He carried on walking. Other stragglers fell in behind. “They wanted a leader. I was the best they could find.”
He passed scenes which he described as Dante’s Inferno, flames, smoke, dead and wounded men, abandoned guns and smashed vehicles – the steam, stench and sound of dead and dying horses.
The aircraft then turned to the beaches, swooping low to drop bombs and fire machine guns.
Then came an incident which illustrates the tensions and confusion on the beaches. A car drew up and an officer stepped out in clean uniform, highly-polished buttons and belt.
He called for any men of the 2nd Division to step forward. McLane and some others did.
The officer pulled out his revolver, pointed it at the Sgt-Major and explained he was taking them back to fight. Another officer emerged from the car, pistol at the ready.
Martin McLane was appalled. “Don’t you dare threaten Durham Light Infantrymen,” he shouted at the officers. The men levelled their rifles at the officers. The officers lowered their revolvers, got in their cars and drove off.
In the end, Sgt-Major McLane and the handful of men boarded a little boat and transferred to a destroyer for the trip back.
Martin McLane received a gallantry medal from the King for his action at Dunkirk.
South Shields born Capt Richard Annand won the first VC of the Second World War as a young 2nd Lieutenant serving with the Durham Light Infantry, on the retreat to Dunkirk.
He and his men fought off two attacks and when their ammunition ran out, Capt Annand kept the Germans at bay by hurling grenades from a bridge. Adam Wakenshaw, of Newcastle, won a VC for his actions when he was killed in the desert in 1942, but also fought and was wounded at Dunkirk." Chronicle Live 26th May 2010.
It was previously berthed at The London Docks and at Eastbourne it was dismantled in 2020.

Polyester/Cotton blended with microfine stainless steel fibers creates a low cost, tough fabric similar to khaki. Perfect for grounding applications. 1000 Ohm per sq on the surface, so it is great for static discharge and easy to make ground connections. Washable and easy to cut and sew. Slightly attracted to a magnet. Nice crisp feel against the skin.

LEC's most recommended fuel tank lightning protection product is LEC’s RGA750 (Retractable Grounding Assembly). The RGA has a spring-loaded cable that attaches between the roof and shell. The bonding cable on an RGA is constructed of a wide, flat braided copper cable and the housing is entirely stainless steel for excellent corrosion protection. If you are in any need of fuel tank lightning protection or require more information, contact our friendly staff member for assistance: www.lightningprotection.com/pdfs/resources/knowledge-tran...

Most of the grounding and components that aren't on the circuit boards are added before the circuit boards go in.
You can see the glue from the mounting hardware. It's an epoxy adhesive made for plastics (most won't stick well to Nylon), but also sticks very well to the enclosures.
I use big globs of glue since its under the circuit board.

One of the very few ACs landing at Frankfurt Airport despite of the aircraft grounding. Condor Sonderflug taking german tourists home. FRA Airport Apron is like a ghost city.
Right now its a really bad situation especially for the all stranded pax (I ve been to some areas - its like being in a refugee camp) in the transit areas. This whole incident shows only one thing: flying is safe, but uncertain - the EU wide aircraft grounding is a result of distinct EU safety thinking. But gladly - someone takes care!

I practice a lot of yoga and meditation. Grounding is a practice that gets you in touch with Earth's energy/vibrations and can be very healing and centering. This helps me through a lot of stressful or anxiety-inducing situations... (seriously go try it!)
