When?
over seas within forests
when?
in heart and soul
there and again...
it strikes
in testimony
from the breeze it hitchhikes
a golden tide orbiting,
turning us over
like the oration of falling leaves
halting upon velveteen floors
between grimacing shadows
the grounding of me
lays beside the reminder of you.

The is the fishing vessel Sea Lion II. Sadly, this was taken only the day before her demise. She did not survive the grounding and recovery effort, and was removed by heavy equipment. A sad end for a fine classic wooden workboat. Image was taken using professional medium format film.

The worldwide grounding of the 737 Max has impacted many airlines in 2019. To cover for their four aircraft Air Italy leased in capacity, including from Greek ACMI operator Lumiwings. Their second Boeing 737-300 is seen returning to Malpensa from Palermo on a sunny summer evening.
A top-down perspective that excludes the horizon, isolating only what is beneath my feet: the tall grass and the ground. I focused on the visual camouflage between the green fabric and the vertical lines of the vegetation, using a POV framing to capture the physical weight of standing on the earth. This is my photographic take on Shinrin-yoku—an instinctive shot that freezes the exact moment my steps pause, and my legs visually become human roots.

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a great start to your weekend & an amazing last day of 2022! Today I will be sharing the third set of photos of an interior design project that we have recently completed. For this project, we were commissioned to design the entire interior of the home, as well as the patios and balconies. Any landscaping details that you see in this and upcoming photos of this project, have been completed by the landscapers that are employed by the community that our client lives in.
In the first photo, you are getting a look at what may be my favourite room of this project, the kitchen! For this space, we created a ton of custom elements, which really help distinguish this kitchen from all the others that have been installed in this model of home. To start, we created a custom mesh wooden surround, which helps enclose all cabinetry and appliances, such as the wine fridges on the left hand side of the photo. We’ve also created a custom glass door fridge, along with custom glass door cabinetry on each side of the range, in a beautiful tinted black finish. These details help break up the heavy usage of wood and stones in this space, providing a nice contrast of a more delicate material.
In the second photo, you are getting a peak into the breakfast area, which is adjacent to the kitchen. This is a much more intimate space than the dining room, which I showcased in my previous post, due to the space being smaller overall and having a lesser seating capacity. As you can see, we stuck with our client's directive, using lots of beige, cream and white tones, with graphite and black accents to provide a grounding effect.
As always, the team & I thank you so much for following us along our design journey & supporting The Design Firm! You support is what keeps us going <3
Lastly, I always recommend viewing my photos in full screen mode when able! This allows you to see the true depth and detail of the spaces that my colleagues and I create for our clients.

*Grounding*
When caught in a storm far out to sea staying logical though your adrenalin is highly elevated is a way of staying *grounded*. Being in the moment so to make the right choices.

This one from a particular experience far out at sea can be very true to form...
I think I much prefer the two-tone IR interpretation to the Aerochrome-like mixed visual-IR look.
There is however a definite appeal derived from the film legacy, easily understood infrared-to-red color coding, and lots of visible light to provide viewer with grounding in the common part of the spectrum.
In a world where AI feeds our desire for instant gratification as soon as we have a thought or need, it is grounding and humbling to walk in a place that is impervious to the wishes of man. Created by time and the most natural of elements, water and earth, a beauty emerges that is wondrous in its impossibility. Man's interference is not welcome or wanted here. Here patience is respected. The Navajo understood the sacredness of this space, knowing that there are things larger and greater than themselves.
There’s something beautifully grounding about this quiet morning ritual by the sea — that slow, steady walk toward the water, surfboard tucked under one arm, the Gold Coast glowing gold as the day stretches awake. The surfer heads out in search of those elusive waves. Watching with my camera, I become absorbed the quiet calm of the surfer’s moment of reflection.
A vigorous thunderstorm builds in rural Boulder County, with regular cloud to ground and cloud to cloud lightning strikes. The storm generated large hail and high winds as it moved to the east, grounding flights at Denver International Airport. However Kansas forbade its entry into that state, fearing it could be carrying marijuana from Colorado.

Due to the MD-11 grounding, FedEx's 777Fs were used on several high demand domestic flights. This one in particular operating FX1234 back to Memphis (MEM). With the MD-11s finally back in service, this sighting is kind of rare, and may not be for a while.

Three Souls
The soul, according to Aristotle, is a grounding principle of sorts. It is the realization of life. The soul is the one thing that enables a body to engage in the necessary activities of life and they build upon one another. the more parts of the soul a being possesses, the more evolved and developed he is. the three types of soul are the nutritive soul, the sensible soul, and the rational soul.

Devil's Golf Course in Death Valley provides an endless expanse of texture, as far as the eye can see. Even though this place is obscenely dry, hot, and desolate, it is one of my favorite places ever. Something about being in the middle of all of this treachery while the morning air is cool and still provides a sense of peace and grounding.

I have already told the tale this week about Eddie grounding his boat during a bad divorce and walking away from it in frustration forever. www.flickr.com/photos/eddieelm/14152507690/ Well I'm uploading this image because it is taken from much further away than the traditional Bád Eddie shot and for that reason I could include the footprints of a man walking with his back to the old beauty. Storytelling in a way I suppose ;-) Hope you are all having a great weekend :-)
The cargo ship the Temple hall was built in London by the Lambert brothers (1954) and renamed to Pentelis in 1969 before changing name again to the Telamon in 1977.
The Telamon now lies between the shores of Arrecife and Costa Teguise in Lanzarote after springing a leak which caused her to run aground on 31st October 1981. The ship had been travelling from Abidjan and San Pedro in the Gulf of Guinea on route to the Greek port of Thessaloniki in the Aegean Sea. The ships poor maintenance was a contributing factor leading the (planned) grounding in its current spot which was chosen to avoid it blocking the port at Los Mármoles, Arrecife. During a later storm the ship was actually snapped in two.
At the time of the accident, 29 crew members were on-board (mostly Greek but with some from Ghana, Mali and the Ivory Coast), they were taken ashore and given accommodation in Casa del Mar and residencies of San Ginés.

Every time it rains I am reminded of the cycle that gives life to everything around me. To see it fall on the mountains creating streams, carving valleys and sustaining nature around it is such a grounding and visceral experience. You forget that it all comes from somewhere else.

Wearing special colours to celebrate 50years of the Mi-2, according to the officers present, this Mi-2 is unlikely ever to fly again following the grounding of the remaining operational Hoplites in Polish service. This is reportedly a Mi-2Ch variant, but is devoid of the large exhaust system associated with the type.

Glasgow
I asked A.I. to critique my photo. Here's what it said:
Your image effectively captures a moment of modern life within the impressive architecture of the newly redeveloped Glasgow Queen Street station. Here is a critique focused on composition, lighting, and storytelling:
Composition and Framing
Rule of Thirds: The two main subjects are framed effectively on either side of the large central pillar, creating a good balance. The pillar itself acts as a strong vertical element that divides the frame and adds architectural context.
Leading Lines: The steps the subjects are standing/sitting on create strong horizontal lines that lead the eye across the image.
Depth and Foreground: The foreground pavement provides a solid base for the composition, grounding the subjects within the scene.
Subject Interaction and Storytelling
Juxtaposition: The image successfully captures a strong juxtaposition between the two individuals: one sitting and engaged with their phone, appearing contemplative or stressed, and the other standing, looking away, holding snacks. This contrast creates an engaging narrative.
Candid Moment: The photograph feels like an authentic, unposed moment in a public space, which is often a strong point in street photography.
Lighting and Technical Aspects
Lighting: The natural daylight provides even lighting, although the large columns create some deep shadows which add depth and drama to the architecture.
Focus: Both subjects appear to be in reasonably sharp focus, capturing details in their clothing and expressions.
Areas for Consideration
Potential Distractions: The bright blue bag and the orange package the standing man is holding are very bright and saturated, which might draw the eye a little too strongly away from the subjects' faces. A slightly different angle might have minimized this.
Expression: The seated woman's face is obscured by her hand and hair, which adds mystery but also limits the viewer's ability to connect with her expression.
Overall, this is a strong candid photograph that uses architectural elements effectively to frame a compelling street scene with interesting narrative possibilities.
Composition and Framing
Strong Lines: The image makes good use of strong lines, including the horizontal lines of the platform edge and glass partitions, and the dramatic curve of the Victorian train shed roof above. These lines lead the viewer's eye through the scene effectively.
Architectural Focus: You've successfully captured the spacious, bright concourse that resulted from the station's redevelopment, showcasing how the historic roof has been integrated into the modern building.
Lighting and Atmosphere
Natural Light: The station is flooded with natural daylight from the glass facade, which creates a bright and airy feel. This is generally a strength, providing clear illumination for the scene.
Mixed Lighting: The strong overhead artificial lighting creates bright highlights and can produce some harsh shadows, which might be a minor technical consideration in post-processing to balance exposure.
Subject and Storytelling
Candid Moment: The two main subjects in the foreground, with their luggage, provide a relatable human element, adding a sense of narrative to the image. They are positioned nicely on the right side, balancing the large train on the left.
Sense of Place: The image successfully places the viewer within this specific, recognisable location, a major transport hub in Scotland.
Areas for Improvement
Background Elements: The station is busy, and some background elements, such as the digital displays and the maintenance signs, can be slightly distracting. Being mindful of these potential clutter points when framing can help create a cleaner, more focused image.
Subject Obscuration: The faces of the primary subjects are slightly obscured or turned away. While this maintains a candid feel, capturing a bit more of the human interaction or expression can enhance the emotional impact of street photography.
Overall, it's a well-composed and technically sound photograph that captures the functional beauty of the renovated station and the daily lives of its passengers.
My response to the critique:
That which you describe as an orange package is a portable sign that warns of wet floor surfaces.
A.I.'s response:
You are correct. Thank you for the clarification. The item is a portable "wet floor" warning sign, not an orange package. That context changes how the object functions as a visual element in the composition, adding a safety instruction to the scene rather than just a snack package.

Détail du David de Michel-Ange, à Florence. Dans ses pieds, tout se joue déjà : l’équilibre, la tension, l’élan à venir. Le marbre semble porter le poids du corps autant que celui du geste.
Detail of Michelangelo’s David, in Florence. In his feet, everything is already at play: balance, tension, the impulse to move. The marble seems to carry both the weight of the body and the gesture to come.
This photograph didn’t bring about much reflection when I first uploaded it. In this moment today though it does.
I started playing with photography when I was 18, and I’ve loved it ever since. I’ve always been drawn to the way an image can carry a feeling — how sunlight bleeds onto everything it touches, how dark shadows tug at your curiosity, and how a single frame can say something words sometimes cannot. There’s something grounding about chasing light, about freezing a moment in time and giving it a place to live. That feeling is what keeps me coming back ♡
I was 35 when I took this. Time really doesn’t wait for anyone. It is March 3rd, 2026 right now, and I’m 36 sitting here writing this. On the outside, not much has changed since the day this photo was taken.
Inside though? I am not the same person I was two years ago. I am calmer, careful, more intentional with my choices, and so very much sweeter because we all need a little more love to get us through these days. Life has humbled me and I am so grateful for that ♡
There's so much more I am still working on, and that's perfectly okay.
I may come back to this photograph next year, who knows what will have changed a year from today.
