Green Island lives up to its name as a pair of former KCS Belles lead ethanol train 546 south on the Marquette Subdivision. This former Milwaukee Road line, which later passed to I&M Rail Link and the Iowa, Chicago, & Eastern, has become a good deal busier since the CPKC merger.
Bill and I went to a pond recommended by our friend Yamil, who in turn was recommended by Larry Selman, a Santa Cruz bird photographer (I love Larry's tagline - "bird photography - a passion bordering on obsession")
The pond is inside a mobile-home park in a laid-back /mellow forested city named Scotts Valley. Full of swans (including black swans), and some surprise birds - such as this green heron.
Like all green herons, this one took off for points unknown as soon as we got within 20 feet. But...it was a small pond and as it stalked for fish it slow....ly came back to where we patiently waited for it. I missed the fish capture, which came out blurry, but got this. Got to love a bird that stays so still we could take f21 exposures at a 1/15th of a second. An ecstatically, fabulously, wonderful morning - all those karma points I've earned paid off.
We shot until the pond fountains came on. Gotta love it.
In this shot, the heron's looking at us. I think I prefer that, to shots where the heron is looking down for fish.
Winter is green season after some rains. Many plants have now flowers again after a hot and dry summer. This is the time to plant cool season veggies like lettuce, radishes, etc..The view from the house towards the Ebro valley.

Im Winter ist es grün sobald es ein paar Tage lang geregnet hat. Viele Pflanzenblühen jetzt wieder nach dem heissen und trockenen Sommer. Jetzt kann man Gemüse pflanzen das gern kühl hat, wie Salat, Radiesli etc..

As you all know I am always looking for something different in cat photos and this the last in this series of images of Shadow and my favourite one out of the three, when I had this idea of just the eyes in colour I didn't realize how striking those eyes would be, I hope you all agree!

This gorgeous fella was in Bird Kingdom (yes I know he's not a bird) Niagara Falls, Ontario, and although behind glass, I thought his pic turned out rather well :) :)
The mighty green iguana, I think of Costa Rican descent? LOL anyway... I love lizards and reptiles... always fancied a gecko (I know, big difference!!)
Half way through the week, the wind is easing a little, and so is the rain, to be honest we had a balmy 16 degrees yesterday, so pretty much like the average summer's day in Northern Ireland LOL

Cibola National Forest. Sometimes I'll take a quick snap with my phone as a demo shot before I position my camera. In this case I got the best shot (and only shot) when the light disappeared behind the hill.

Elaine Green is a Tasmanian artist who was the only one to directly reference the social landscape of 2020. There are 30 little landscapes here in this work entitled "April". Each one represents a scene she painted from every one of the 30 days of lock down we endured in Tasmania (thank goodness for her sake she didn't live in Victoria).
This is not the primary reason why I liked this work. I think it stands up as a great piece of work in its own right. Each little landscape a gem. [Enlarge it and see.] It was highly commended by the judges.
Here is what she says about her work:
"The thirty scenes depicted in this work reflect the thirty days in April 2020 of lockdown in Stanley Tasmania. The world had changed, helicopters flew over-head and roadblocks were erected to prevent us travelling far. No tourists came for the Easter break, the shops were all shut, the chairlift sat silent and the penguins were not visited. But the wind still blew, the rain still fell, the sun rose and set, the tide came in and out and the magnificence that is Stanley comforted my soul."
