From the toxic waste created by the extreme extraction of tar sands destroying indigenous communities in Canada, to toxins created by the BP Whiting refinery producing sacrifice communities in the Greater Chicago area, to the resultant catastrophic effect on our climate, the urgent need for a just transition away from fossil fuels to a 100% renewable energy economy is abundantly clear.

Stockholm, my home between 1994 to 2001, is often called the Venice of the Nordics because of its over 22.000 small islands in the archipelago outside.
Nowadays Stockholm is leading the way in innovation and impact, building world class startups turning Unicorns.

Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica will purchase all of the energy created by the Oaxaca I Lamatalaventosa Wind Farm for the next 15 years.
The turbines in this wind farm were manufactured in the United States by California based Clipper Windpower and exported to Mexico to meet Walmart's demand for renewable energy.

The small batch of 18 Hybrid Gemini's all based at Birmingham Central garage have that slightly comical/out of proportion look about them. The long overhang with the closely spaced front and rear axles doesn't really help. These buses are best viewed front or rear! 5503 (BX61 LHO) seen on Livery St is operating on service 23, which is fairly normal for this batch.

This graphic shows how a flexible heat pump works. This newer heat pump design, by thermal engineer Zhibin Yu of the University of Glasgow, stores residual heat that would otherwise be wasted and uses it to help heat the house or defrost part of the pump itself. This makes the system more efficient.

Graphic depicts the carbonation reaction, in which carbon dioxide is absorbed by concrete.
The carbonation reaction is nature’s way of reversing the cement-making process: As soon as calcium compounds in the concrete are exposed to carbon dioxide in the air, they spontaneously try to form calcium carbonate again. Although this process can put steel reinforcemeny bars at risk of corrosion, it does mean that old concrete structures will be-absorb as much as 40 percent of the carbon dioxide produced in building them.

The road to low-carbon concrete
For thousands of years, humanity has had a love affair with cement and concrete. But now, industry groups and researchers are seeking solutions to the huge amounts of carbon dioxide that cement-making generates.

Passive solar pool heating on a roof in Florida. Obviously not such a bad place for making use of the technology. While this is a very cool and useful photo for anyone who wants to check out solar pool heating - FYI the solar PV system above is Miami Dade hurricane compliant by having a third rail under the panels.
This is part of the whole series of renewable energy images that we are digging up from the "secret" (not really) archives to post for general use by all.
