..she is still waiting for a sign

as everything was closed during the lockdown I visited Melbourne with the bicycle and was charmed when I saw these palmtrees high on a building

Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese painter and graphical artist. His work influenced European artists, e.g. Vincent van Gogh. The woodblock print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", from his series "Thirty-six views on the mount Fuji" is one of his best known works. I've wanted to recreate it in Lego for some years, and with the Kockice lug organising a contest around Achievements of the Far East I could not resist the temptation any longer.

I realise it's been done before, usually as a 2D mosaic, for example by Nathan Sawaya and Alanboar Cheung. But I wanted to build a 3D version, with the waves having claws, like the adorable one from Mike Dung, only bigger and more detailed.

Sferracavallo spiaggia is a portfolio of 8 photographs shot on the rocky coast of the town of Sferracavallo northwest of Palermo, Sicily. In the pictures, you can see the waves hitting the unique natural marble formations that are characteristic of the coast.

The pictures are 36x36 cm, made on 57x57 cm Saunders Waterford Hot press 300g watercolor paper. These are cyanotypes toned with tannic acid extracted from green oak gall nuts.

This started as a street scene but, after so much transformation, the original raw material doesn't matter. Abstract means no recognisable reality and here we are true to such definition.

Made with the MirrorLab app.

This piece is part of a big project in Eindhoven. The shapes of the background are part of the new logo of Eindhoven and we had to integrate them in the pieces so we kept everything pretty graphical. It came out nice don't you think so?

Flysch are disappearing in the beach...

I haven't been posting much on Flickr partly because I have been on an adventure — possibly a side quest — doing black and white photography — most of it minimalist and abstract. It's kind of a break from what I usually post here, but I think I'm going to start sharing some of it while I see where this goes.

Graphical representation of the three frames.

This abstract image is part of a project created by photographing tracks of ice skaters on a frozen pond.
