At Easter, we stayed at our regular place near Greenlands, west of Stanthorpe. Managed to take a photo before the rain squall came through.
Not for nothing is New Hampshire called the Granite State! All the rock we saw [and we saw plenty] was indeed all granite.
Granite and amphibolite can be seen in ths outcrop of crystalline basement rock in Shoshone Canyon west of Cody Wyoming. The metamorphic and Igneous rocks exposed here date to around 2.6 billion years ago. Geologist call that time period during the Precambrian the Archean Eon. These rocks represent a time when Wyoming was a separate microcontinent called the Wyoming Craton which existed 500 million years before the North American Continent formed.
Glass and Granite
Exterior view of the “Scotiabank Great Hall” of the National Gallery of Canada - Ottawa’s glass palace of art.
Architect Moshe Safdie designed the National Gallery of Canada. In light of the Gallery’s proximity to, and view of, Parliament Hill, Safdie determined that the Gallery absolutely must have a great hall, suitable for formal evening gatherings (of politicians), with a large panoramic window overlooking Canada’s national parliament, the Ottawa River and the Gatineau hills.
Safdie’s vision was certainly realized as the Scotiabank Great Hall - whether viewed from the inside or the outside - is nothing short of spectacular.

Strolling around the magnificent Granite Island, just offshore from Victor Harbour
Looking back towards Victor Harbour, having completed a circuit of the island.
Over Easter we stayed at Tumbledown Nature Refuge and on one of the days, the owner, Jayn seen here, took us for a bushwalk to explore the surrounding area including seeing Aboriginal sharpening grooves.
Best if viewed large. This was taken in July of this year, a very dry year. Can you imagine the flow in spring of a wet year. Granite falls is located in Washington, State just a few miles north of Priest Lake, Idaho. There is a grove of old growth cedars there and they are worth the drive all by themselves.

🇬🇧 TERRESTRIAL FAUNA
The birds are among the most spectacular representatives of the area. Colonies of herring gulls on the islets, crested cormorants on the cliffs, pairs of peregrine falcons and of course ospreys perched on the top of inaccessible peaks, bluebirds and Mediterranean warblers all over the scrubland, are just some of the many species that can be found at Scandola.
Starting in 1973 the CP had an aggressive tie and ballast program on the Saint John Division between Megantic and Saint John. The granite came out of a pit located in Scotstown that the CPR owned. Later on they would get a pink colored granite out of a pit at Magaguadavic on the McAdam Sub. No 981 with a trio of RS18's and an RS10 is Westbound at West Seboeis on the Mattawamkeag Sub. The Mattawamkeag Sub was isolated like the Moosehead and not nearly as scenic, I regret not spending more time on it.
Yosemite, California
The granite ramparts of Sentinel Rock appear briefly from the clouds floating above Yosemite valley.
Trying out my new camera, still using my trusty Nikon 17-55mm lens though, until I can afford the upgrade to an FX lens.
Another photo from the beautiful granite coast in the south of Western Australia. This is the Natural Bridge in Torndirrup National Park. I am forever fascinated by the intricate structure and textures of this amazing coastline.

The granite wall known as Royal Arches rises up above Ahwahnee Meadow, as the top of Half Dome is cut off by swirling clouds in this 60-second exposure at the heart of Yosemite Valley.
Thanks very much for stopping by, and for your continued kind comments and favorites.
The Granite School is open to the public, who has, for the most part, not abused it. At the very least, it's still standing and most of the windows are not broken.
This is a rare RB67 shot that was done on the tripod. Usually I handhold everything, but it was too dark for such shenanigans.

rugged but beautiful pink granite hills surround Tenterfield New South Wales and make for a pleasurable drive. This image was taken at sunrise on tourist route 9 to the west of the town.
