Wikipedia: Wat Phra Kaew, commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and officially as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. The complex consists of a number of buildings within the precincts of the Grand Palace in the historical center of Bangkok. It houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which is venerated as the country's palladium.

Dessus gris-brun, petit bec court et assez puissant, cercle orbitaire sombre, sourcil blanc, pattes orange à jaunes.
En période nuptial , large collier noir, front et masque noir, avec trait frontal blanc, bec à base orange et pointe noire.
Le grand gravelot s'observe essentiellement à proximité du littoral sur les plages de sable, les vasières, et plus rarement dans les eaux intérieures.
Il les attrappe et me les rapporte... Mais non il les mange !

Last February we were able to snowshoe across the lake to Grand Island in Munising MI. The hike over was somewhat terrifying for me, as I've never been one who feels that safe on frozen Lake Superior. However, the sights were amazing. So glad I did it!

The granites of this part of the Mont Blanc massif also dominate the Ferret Valley, leaving the hiker photographer enthralled.
Anche i graniti di questa parte del massiccio del Monte Bianco, dominano la Val Ferret e ti lasciano senza parole.
Nel luglio 2006 avevo fatto un giro ad anello da Trappa (Val Sapin) 1505 mt- rif. Bertone 1991 mt - Mont de la Saxe 2345 mt - Tete de la Tronche 2580 mt - Col Sapin 2435 mt e poi da li in 2 ore ancora giù in Val Sapin.
Classificai quella escursione con un 10 definendolo trek perfetto. Questo giro autunnale per forza di cose più breve da Planpincieux (2h. 15 fino alla rosa dei venti sopra al rifugio Bertone), ripropone le stesse meraviglie che dominano la val Ferret, con una luce stagionale stupenda.
Il voto rimane lo stesso: 10.

Le Grand Gravelot adulte nuptial se reconnaît à sa taille plus grande (en comparaison directe), à son oeil sombre peu visible sur fond noir, à la tache blanche du front plus grande et à la couleur orange vif du bec (à bout noir) et des pattes. La femelle se distingue du mâle par les couvertures auriculaires et le bandeau pectoral envahis de brun. Le plumage inter-nuptial rappelle le nuptial, mais le plumage est moins uniforme dessus, le noir est remplacé par du brun sombre, enfin le bec et les pattes sont plus ternes. Il arrive que l'oeil apparaisse avec un très léger cercle oculaire orange rappelant le Gravelot semipalmé, mais ce cercle est très différent du cercle jaune très marqué du Petit Gravelot.
