I encountered a YouTube video about converting color to B&W using gradient maps. Like most such videos it was terrible, but after 6 or 7 hours I finally unravelled what it was all about. In fact, the technique itself is extremely powerful, so much so that I may explain it on my AnEyeForTexas blog soon. After trying 5 alternative approaches to converting this image, a B&W layer placed under a B&W gradient map was undoubtedly the the most flexible and provided the best results. So here is the result.

Super amei!
Beijos, fiquem com Deus!

Not to be confused with a vector illustration, this is actually a photograph with minimal corrections (dust spot removal, no color enhancements). The crisp clear sky during sunset in the Great Smoky Mountains gave a perfect red-orange gradient on the horizon with just enough atmospheric perspective in the foothills. Nature's work of art!
Yesterday I returned to photograph an old (well...not THAT old!) photographic friend...the fabulous staircase in the Usher Hall.
I've only just completed hours of post processing on this shot. Given the light gradient...I stacked four different exposures of the same RAW file on top of each other....combined with adjustment layers and layer masks.
However...what makes this a little different to my previous shots of this...is that it was taken with my (newish) 16-35mm lens...at the 16mm range...while previous efforts have been taken at 24mm.
My thanks are due to Victoria Fuller for giving me permission to photograph.

A new spell for DRS to manage the 6X43 services from Dagenham to Garston cars, with 88009 powering the gradient out of Rugby to Brinklow and beyond. Plenty of cloud cover a few moments before 88009 passed, hence i went East side of the bridge for the shot, only for a break and full sun from behind me....so much for the plan!
