With the dynamic brakes going at full blast, NQSL/CN A46921-27 is ready to take on the 2% grade at Saint-Tite on this cloudy but colourful morning of September.

This is a Grade II* listed building according to Historic England which is a fine C18 town house with some good internal details, one of the finest of a series which mark Poole's greatest period of prosperity. It is now used as an office.

The bank, built during 1845/6, was designed by C. R. Cockerell in Classical style, and has since been used for other purposes. It is in sandstone on a plinth of Portland stone, and has a slate roof. There are three storeys and a basement, and a symmetrical front of five bays. The lower two floors are rusticated, they contain five engaged Doric columns, and above is an entablature with a triglyph frieze. The middle three bays have a balcony and a pediment, with a doorway in the centre flanked by three-light windows with Diocletian windows above.

Following on from the Test Train image at Hellifield, here is a view looking south from the platforms at the northern end of the Station. The weeds have taken grip, and despite Network Rail spending half a million on the Grade II listed station building in 2013, obviously the budget didn't extend to the platform curtilage.
66103 has arrived from Clitheroe with 6S00, the loaded cement tanks bound for Mossend, and awaits the peg for the long climb up the Settle and Carlisle line. Friday 16.6.17

The 80 car SU-99 heads westbound through Newfoundland with three SD60s pulling hard to maintain track speed. Newfoundland was home of Finbar in the 2003 movie "The Station Agent".
The Saluda Grade is the steepest standard-gauge mainline railway in the USA and opened in July 1878. The three mile railway grade ranged from 3.7%- 4.7%.
The railway line was constructed to connect Spartanburg, South Carolina, Asheville and North Carolina through the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has been out of service since 2001.
Since 2001 the vibrant green vegetation around the railway has started to rapidly grow over the tracks and in some sections completely engulfed the railway. Beneath some of the railway it has been heavily eroded, which has caused many railway ties to become detached from the railway lines.

The 16th Century timber-framed hotel was formerly three separate buildings. The name 'hostelrie' refers to the time when travellers on horseback or in carriages pulled by horses would have stayed here. As Stratford has become a major tourist town because it is the birthplace of Shakespeare his name is often used for shops, inns and other buildings.
The neighbouring stone-built town hall was designed by Robert Newman in the Palladian style, was completed in 1767. It was officially opened by the actor, David Garrick, in 1769.
For the Saluda Grade faithful: This tunnel/underpass goes under Saluda grade, it allows Pearson Falls Road to pass under the grade while bridging Joel's Creek. Fascinating find whule checking out Saluda Grade. Saluda Grade is the steepest standard-gauge mainline railway grade in the United States. Owned by the Norfolk Southern Railway as part of its W Line, Saluda Grade in Polk County, North Carolina, gains 606 feet (185 m) in elevation in less than three miles between Melrose and Saluda. Average grade is 4.24 percent for 2.6 miles (4.2 km) and maximum is 4.9% for about 300 feet (91 m).

Wikipedia: This is a former nonconformist chapel dating from 1707. It is situated in Broad Street, now the principal shopping street.. The building has been reused as a branch of the Waterstone's chain of bookshops. The building is a Grade II listed building.
My first fully analog image, captured on Fomapan 100 and printed on Fomaspeed Variant 313 b&w paper (velvet). Getting it up on Flickr of course breaks the analog process when scanning the print. If you think the crop looks "tight" its because the negative film holder was 9x12 cm and my film negative was 4x5 inches. There's nothing as magic as seeing the print emerge in the developer bath. Now I need to learn how to improve the quality by varying the time of exposure and which filters to use to control darkness, details and contrast. The fun has just begun.
