An alternative look at Nottingham's Goose Fair, 2023.
Another visit to Nottingham's Goose Fair. This time an alternative slant. Quite literally the 'nuts and bolts' that keep the rides and stalls going. Getting in close on the mechanics of the fair. I asked permission from the showmen and and women for permission, they had no hesitations whatsoever. Some were happy to chat, to explain procedure and other aspects of the fair.

I went along to Goose Fair on two evenings while it was on this year. On the first evening I took with me my Fujifilm XT2 camera with a 35mm f/2 lens, and the second evening my XT3 camera with the kit lens (see adjacent detail).

So we're back to Nottingham's annual Goose Fair, the largest outdoor fun fair in Europe. Once a year in the first week of October the Forest Recreation Ground gives itself over to rides, palm readers, mushy pea vendors (don't ask) and loads of hook a duck stalls. It's awesome for it's pure cheesiness.
Here I've used a wide angle lens to capture the height and depth of the ride. The monochrome processing is intended to add a vintage feel to this composition,

This is one of the many reasons I love my city - Nottingham. There's always something happening throughout the year. Goose Fair is one of the highlights, heralding the start of the dark nights and coming winter months.

The Nottingham Goose Fair is an annual fun fair held in Nottingham, UK, during the first week of October.
It is largely provided by travelling fair people.
The consensus among historians is that the fair probably started just after 1284, when the Charter of King Edward I referred to city fairs in Nottingham. The Goose Fair was cancelled due to the bubonic plague in 1646 and again during the two World Wars in the 20th century.

We arrived later than expected at the fair last night but just in time to catch the sun as it set behind the rides (how lucky can you get). The atmosphere of the fair was great and I would recommend the views from the big wheel.
