2901 Pico Boulevard, opened in 1958. If you like architecture, their googie-style, neon sign is beautiful.

A shit-ton of great music came out in 1958 (the year Rae's opened). Two of my favorites.

This one's for flicker member jericl cat, Goody's has closed it's doors here at this location (more than fifty years) and will open again at another location, there is a fight now over the fate of their amazing googie sign......... check out jericl cat's stream www.flickr.com/photos/79761301@N00/4290188588/ ....... I've read that a Marie Calendars might move there and you know they aren't going to want this........... seems if this great googie sign goes to the scrap heap it will really be a shame

An image captured with lightpainting assistance from Scott Haefner in 2019 of the Covina Bowl under the full moon. The quintessentially Googie facade of Covina Bowl was built in 1956 and was one of the first to have a cocktail lounge, part of a collection of nearly 50 bowling alleys designed by mid-century architectural firm, Powers Daly and DeRosa.

As the Los Angeles Conservancy notes, it is "more Polynesian than Egyptian, with its rock cladding and soaring roofline. Inside the building, a cocktail lounge once featured Egyptian statuary, and wonderful mid-century light fixtures and terrazzo floors."

In 2017, Covina Bowl closed forever, and it fell into dereliction not long afterwards. A coalition of local advocates helped ensure portions were preserved as part of a housing development by Trumark Homes - a win-win solution that included both housing and historic preservation.

Johnie's Coffee Shop was purchased in 1994 by the founders of the 99 Cents Only Stores. The diner closed in 2000. The parking lot and sign was used for the adjacent 99 Cent Store up until 2024 when it closed.

Took a road trip to visit my siblings in Dallas back in early March, before everything got crazy. It was all about some time with family, so I didn't do too much shooting. But my sister and brother-in-law were sweet to see that I had a chance to get some of the neon I've been longing to photograph. The clouds parted just in time and I was crazy thrilled to get this amazing iconic 1953 sign at last!! And yes, we came back for the night glow too - see next shot. : ) Didn't need any liquor, got all the buzz I could handle from the sign!

This great neon was originally at the Inwood Rd & Lemmon Ave location, but was moved up to Addison, a northern suburb, when the Inwood store closed in 2009. Finally, in 2017, Dallas got it back when it was installed at the Greenville Ave location across from Old Town Shopping Center. Yep, people like me show up just to bask in the neon glow!

My husband was in NYC and had a street artist create this portrait of Googie from a photo he'd taken of her. He gives the best gifts <3

We had a wonderful brunch at this historic googie diner. From the Los Angeles Conservancy web site: "Designed by Louis Armet and Eldon Davis, Norms La Cienega is the oldest location still in operation."

It opened in 1957. The exterior, as you can see, is fabulous, and the interior doesn't disappoint either. Highly recommended for googie aficionados -- and the hungry.
