Tori no Ichi Fair (RAKE FAIR) is a famous annual event in November on the day of the Tori (Rooster) in Chinese calendar and this event has continued to today since the Edo period.

Tori no Ichi is held at shrines and temples nationwide on set days (days of the rooster ) in November and many people come to there to pray for a health, good fortune and good business. There are about 300 rake stalls in the yard of the Ohtori Shrine sold lucky rakes decorated with colorful symbols of good fortune, believed to bring wealth to the purchasers.

I decided to try my hand at a bit of monkeying around for the Chinese New Year. Wishing you the best for the Year of the Red Fire Monkey.

The health benefits of apples include prevention of heart, stomach, and liver disorders, gallstones, constipation, anemia, and diabetes. They also lower your risk of suffering from rheumatism, eye disorders, a variety of cancers, gout, and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Apples help in reducing weakness, providing relief from dysentery, and promoting digestion. Finally, they also aid in dental and skin care.

Although the conscious mind fabricates stories about building a good health...

The subconscious mind is well aware about the testosterone rush.

It's all about strength, power and manliness.

It's the basic, primal instinct, that works underneath the bare skin....

It's all about attracting an attractive female.

This wonderful little Maneki Neko rounds out the Red theme week shared with my vivacious friend, crittrs.

I love these small ceramic kitties. They always look so happy and serene. We have two; this one and a white one. I believe the red are to ward off evil spirits and also promote good health. So, here is to your health! Wishing you much good health and happiness.

If you have a moment, please view in light box. It makes the red pop.

Please also take time to visit crittrs' wonderful gift from her son. It is beautiful and so touching! :)

Hoping you all have a wonderful Red Saturday!

Earlier in the year my youngest daughter had an accident and scolded herself, lucklly it wasn't too bad and she healed up okay (just gave us both a real scare). This is what is left over from the bandage that held her dressing on

Couldn't decide which one so you've got both!! (think it's the white for me though!)

For Macro Monday's theme "Good Health". This is an eye dropper with a little olive oil in it.

"Macro Monday: Good Health"

Been a while since I've done something for Macro Mondays group. I had something else in mind, but that didn't work. On a whim, tried this idea and liked it.

I am a Type 2 Diabetic with a tendency to gain weight. In order to stay healthy, I check my blood glucose regularly, take my meds, watch my diet and my weight- and I WALK! I AIM for 10,000 steps per day but don't ALWAYS achieve that. I do, however, TRY. My little Fitbit is my best friend!!!

this week's MM theme: Good health

It's been several years since we had the right kind of snow/enough inches to get on my skis. It was nice to get to putter around behind the house on Sat afternoon with temps around freezing. We're now bracing for that Polar Vortex to plunge down overnight, as many of you have already had to endure. Not looking forward to that! Brrrrr!!!!

I couldn't think what to do for Macro Monday's theme "Good Health" and then Sunday morning as I was eating breakfast I looked at the supplements I was about to take. Here's an Evening Primrose Oil capsule balanced on top of a cafetiere. - HMM!

On our last night in Scotland, a drink to our wonderful journey. Sitting in the Deacon Brodie Tavern on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh.

I did not get that big a harvest of okra, just a few little ones that my wife picked on the weekend and I thought why not take a picture of these as they have such wonderful greens. I put them inside a small wooden bucket and shot the picture in the green house. I loved the way this came out. Hope you like it too :)

Hi, my name is Lynda and I'm a tomato addict - I cannot go a day without eating tomatoes, preferably fresh, but a sauce from tinned ones is good too. However, unlike other "addictions" this one is good for my health.

Not only do tomatoes taste delicious - they are so good for you! They are one of the few fruits/vegetables that become more nutritious after being cooked as the process of cooking them enables us to absorb their many nutritive qualities, which not only provide valuable anti-oxidants, but help keep our bones and hearts healthy. They also help protect against harmful UV rays because of their lycopene content - and that's just the start of what this wonder food can do for you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato Even ketchup is good for you in small amounts as long as it's a brand that contains a lot of tomatoes and not too much sugar and salt.

AND… if you've read this far :-)

I'm going to be pretty flat out from now until at least April as the Nomads are living up to their name and moving again in a few week's time, so I'm going to be reducing my Flickr time to just a few posts per week (or less whilst moving), including a self-driven "52 in 52 Weeks" project I'm doing (with at least 1 other Flickr contact). I will try to visit all my great contacts when I can grab a spare 5 minutes, but if all I do is fave your posts, please know that it's because I'm trying to stay in touch and not be a complete post-and-run.

Thank you in advance for any comments and/or favourites.

Happy Chinese New Year

"Waes Hail", the term itself is a contraction of the Middle English phrase wæs hæl, meaning literally "good health" or "be you healthy" and to the drink of wassail which is a hot mulled cider traditionally drunk as an integral part of the wassail ceremony.

History & Meaning of Yellow Roses:

With their optimistic hue and general association with good cheer, yellow roses are the perfect way to toast friends, lift spirits and send a general wish for well-being. And that’s great news for those who love roses—the rose is known for its simple, architectural beauty, but some colors are so loaded with significance that they can be a bit tricky to work with. Sending a get-well bouquet of red roses to your administrative assistant might raise eyebrows around the office, for instance. Suffice it to say, you can never go wrong with yellow roses.

Long associated with the sun and its life-giving warmth, yellow is the age-old spokes-color for warm feelings of friendship and optimism. In many Eastern cultures, the color represents joy, wisdom and power. But while any yellow flower will send a lighthearted message, the history of the yellow rose in particuar has an optimistic, serendipitous character that really makes it the complete package.

By the 18th century the worldwide love of roses was in full swing, but they were only cultivated in shades of pink and white. At last, the elusive yellow rose was discovered growing wild in the Middle East, and the European love affair with yellow roses was born. The early yellow rose lacked the sweet scent for which the rose is famous, however, which was not to be tolerated. So, as cultivation methods were developed and refined, the beloved sweet-and-spicy rose scent was soon introduced and the yellow rose achieved all its optimistic and aromatic glory.
