When I ticked over 1 Million views four months back I decided to re-process the first shot I posted to Flickr. I had better processing tools and nine months more experience, and I'm sure the exercise showed great improvement. Perfection is never something we will achieve, but we should always aim to be better today than we were yesterday.
Yesterday I didn't wish to distract from my two postings about some issues we are all dealing with in social media. So I didn't put this photograph up.
"Sunset on the Tamar" was one of a series of shots utilising the Gobe 10-stop ND filter. The one I posted earlier is linked below. But this is not a re-processing, because it is actually the same scene but a very different shot. The one below was taken when there was still quite a lot of light around, and this one was the very last shot in camera for that day.
When I came to processing it initially (as I mentioned before I now have better processing tools), I simply gave up this shot. I felt it was too dark and I didn't have the experience or skill in digital processing (specifically the use of luminosity layers) to get the most out of the RAW file. But this time around I can give you this late sunset shot, trying to be as naturalistic as I can in my processing.
My original posting of the same scene, but an earlier shot:

I think that one holds up very well.
Trying out a new toy in my Gobe 10 stop variable ND filter. Allows for those sweet 30 second exposures before the sun completely goes down!

Finally, the weather was good for a decent sunset, I have been after this for many years now when I visit Somerset, but each time it's either cloudy or raining, met a few really nice photographers here as well.
On the way back from Collingwood last week, I noticed a sign for a waterfall called Hogg's Falls. A short detour and a quick 5 minute hike led me to a nice little waterfall. I had been looking for an opportunity to try a new 10 stop ND filter I purchased from Gobe and this location was the perfect spot to break it out.
Thanks for viewing and hope you are having a great weekend!
Estany de les Obagues de Ratera - Lagunas Llosas
This is a long exposure shot (8 seconds) processed under the scene-referred paradigm with Darktable from RAW. It was taken with:
- Haida Neutral filter of 10 steps (3.0 ND)
- 'Gobe' CPL Polarizer Filter.
You can read additional technical information in my profile (about section).
A beautiful 2 night stay in Norfolk, Norfolk was certainly basking in the sun this weekend with record temperatures beating everywhere else in the U.K, not much photography in the day though, spent the weekend on the beach, and such big skies here in Norfolk, I wish you all a happy week ahead.
I visited Hilton Falls Conservation area just outside of Milton Ontario yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by just how nice of a waterfall was there. In the lush green of Spring this waterfall looks like it could be in the tropics if it weren't for the cedars that surround the banks.
Thanks for viewing and have a great weekend!
