“The only thing constant in life is change.” – Heraclitus 500BC

The recent financial crisis has shown us that business as usual can no longer support our new mentalities.

Revolutions in the Middle East and Northern Africa have demonstrated that people and communities

demand changes in their governments. New product developments and social media have rocked our

societal norms and have set precedents for how we communicate and interact. As communities change,

businesses grow and adapt to new markets and environments, our personal needs and desires evolve,

we ask the question, “How can we effectively adapt to and incentivize change as a part of our human

development?”

In an interactive discussion between multi-stake holders , we will tackle the below questions through a

non-traditional human development lens:

• As Individuals: How can we as people evolve to accept and create change as part of our own

human development?

• As Communities: How can local and global communities bring about change in order to improve

people’s quality of life?

• As Businesses: How can business be better able to capitalize on shifting principles and innovative

markets?

Building Leaders: Revolutionizing the Future

Convening Columbia University's brightest to take charge of the dialogue and brainstorm the Vision of the Future with inspiring experts from academia, business, government and civil society.

Collaboration Sessions (80 minutes) will be catalyzed by students from across thirteen different Columbia University graduate and undergraduate schools to discuss how 9 billion people can live well within the limits of the planet by 2050. Each session will consist of a limited number of students to help foster dialogue and multidisciplinary innovation. To offer expert perspectives on these issues, brainstorming will be sparked by selected faculty and alumni from across Columbia University and leading industry professionals in the private, public and social sectors.
