'Glint King' Matt Earnshaw lives up to his reputation, catching the sunset between Loch Eil Outward Bound and Corpach as she skirts the water edge.
Sunrise in Carlisle and 158795 climbs off the S&C with the 07:25 from Newcastle. The sunrise on this morning was dynamic, during a brief period the sun lit up this area and provided a nice glint, unfortunately it quickly rose and settled behind a bank of cloud....no more glint shots.

The location is Channelsea Junction and shows a flurry of activity. Two class 378 units are working to and from Clapham Junction with services to and from Stratford whilst a DLR set proceeds along the short spur to Stratford International all lit up by the setting sun.
There were only seconds left before the sun set behind the hills over looking the South side of the River Teign. The final rays of the day were already diffused behind some low lying cloud and I thought the opportunity to get a glint shot had been missed.
Luckily the 1E63 rounded the corner at Flow Point with perfect timing.
To get this shot I had waded across a couple hundred yards of silt and mud to the waters edge. It was an hour after low tide and the water was flooding into the River as 43366 heads the 1527 Plymouth to Leeds and catches the last glint of the day as the menacing clouds roll down off the moors.

A brief lull in the otherwise perpetual rainstorm on the west side of Stevens Pass allowed for the photo line of soaked railfans to capture this meet at Baring, WA in relative comfort. The sides of the autoracks at the tail end of the eastbound V-TACLPC1 made for quite the reflection in the headlights of the oncoming train of marine stacks.
I like the result of this Shard picture and the sun glint / beam makes the whole scene kind of mystical

On the hottest day of the summer so far, Norfolk Southern V62 is about to pass under the CSX A-Line just outside of Collier Yard in Petersburg, Virginia. It was still probably about 90 degrees with our usual humidity when I snapped this shot at 18:38. The angle NS runs at here with the sun in the evening doesn't give you many options, so it took some creativity to think through how to capture this one. While these type of shots are not my usual MO, I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to think outside of the box. Despite the heat, it was an enjoyable afternoon and evening at North Collier, with both railroads sending a lot of trains our way.
An eastbound freight on the Chicago & North Western main line west of Chicago approaches Flagg, Illinois, and reflects the setting sun of December 28, 1995. The train is powered by Union Pacific EMD SD60M No. 6271 and one of C&NW’s second-hand SD45s.
The beauteous dragonfly's dancing By the waves of the rivulet glancing; She dances here and she dances there, The glimmering, glittering flutterer fair. Full many a beetle with loud applause Admires her dress of azure gauze, Admires her body's bright splendour, And also her figure so slender...

Southern Pacific's Oakland to Denver Forwarder meets a Sunnyside to Geneva coal train at the west end of Soldier Summit. Each detail is reflected with high contrast backlighting.
The original image is a Kodachrome slide, and was scanned in grayscale for effect. A good one at that. No doubt Doug approves.

Couldn't help but return back to this runpast. Doesn't need many words, but the sight of the Ivatt and stock glinting nicely with the Cairngorms looking moody in the background was a superb end to the day.
The evening’s last rays of light catch NS 9529 East bringing empty Catawba train 745 through Raven, Virginia headed to Kent to meet the Q44. I wish it was still that busy on the Clinch Valley!

Flash of feathered steel and the sky parts for one hunter passing overhead.
The Black-shouldered Kite rose without ceremony, without pause—just a single beat of wings. One moment on the perch, the next, an arc of silver and purpose overhead. A glint of serious sky, cast in feathered resolve.
