Catching a bit of dawn sun side-glint NWR Alco YDM-4 unit 6637 gets signalled in to the platform line at Govindgarh Malikpur with the 06.25 Jaipur Junction - Sikar Junction (train 52085).

In commitment to the cause we usually missed breakfast and were out of the hotel by 6am to catch the best light of the day, between 7am-9am. The target on this occasion was the splendid signal gantry - where you'll note none of the substantially constructed safety barriers we see in the UK but, sporting solar panels, it can at least claim to be enironmentally friendly!

These things took over quick! Inside of 2 weeks the Missabe went from 4 old cars pellet sets to one or two.

A northbound limestone train out of Proctor makes a running meet with a southbound CN stack train (Train 116) at Adolph, MN back in September 2004. For the first few years after the CN took over the Missabe they ran the southbounds from Canada down the Missabe. That would change once Proctor was established as a freight yard and the 439 would be sent north out of there each day. Once they started sending 439 out of Proctor, the Missabe became the regular northbound main for the Core Trains.

Another from a year and half ago for Monochrome Monday.

It is Christmas Eve morning, but the freight is still moving as a big Q264 (unit auto racks Buffalo to East Brookfield) heads into the morning light in this going away view looking east off Stone Street / Route 32 overpass just east of MP 83 on CSXT's Boston Sub. There are no holidays and no weekends on the railroad....just another day along the old B&A.

This shot was taken at Etches Park in Derby with some of RTCs sidings in the picture also. The sun had reached that critical height where its light rebounded off the highly polished rails creating this stunning effect which came and went in approx 15-20 mins.

A week later, and Amtrak 184 is still facing east on train 695, seen here crossing the Fore River into Portland again. They're about to conduct a rolling meet with 698, before pulling into the Portland station. On an unrelated note, the removal of Route 1 over the railroad bridge, and subsequent relocation of the Veterans bridge really opened up this bridge nicely, allowing for numerous different angles at different times of the day. And on an even more unrelated note, apparently there used to be a roundhouse right about where I'm standing, back in the 20's. I don't know if all the random chunks of drainage pipes, rebar, and wood everywhere are remains from that, or something else, but they make for decent props.

92178 has in reality long passed its way into the history books, but with the help of Timeline Events we bought her back to life. Using 92212 which is normally based at the Mid Hants Railway, we used her on a rake of goods wagons. Here seen glinting through Kinchley Lane at the Great Central Railway, a cracking end to a very good day :)
