"Macro Mondays" "Glass"

Macro Mondays and the theme of "Glass".

For this theme I finally settled on the lid of a Glass Decanter as my subject. The Decanter has been on a bookcase at my Mum's house completely unused for around 25 years.

For the background I created a few scenes in photoshop using the gradient tool and then set up the subject in front of the laptop screen.

Then it was just a case of flicking between the scenes to see what it looked like and capturing the image.

If you zoom in to the image then you will see around 25 years of grime and dirt that has somehow settled inside the lid.

Several Danaus plexippus (Monarch butterfly) clustering for overwintering amongst the withering leaves of an oak at Ernle Clark Reserve, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Smaller clusters here (a few hundred spread around this tree), but it is a lovely park and one of my favourite old haunts. While there is something to be said for the larger, denser clusters (which I've been photographing elsewhere), there is something I love about them spread out in smaller groups in the oak leaves and basking - especially when sunny (if not exactly warm) when a few will leave and rejoin, causing the perched ones to flap their wings in sympathy (yes, probably protest). I can watch them for hours.

I love the way the sun passes through those backlit wings like stained glass windows. While the background is contrastier than I like, it sort of frames the subject here.

This may be the first time I have shared a butterfly in flight as I don't like how awkward/ungainly they seem when frozen in time mid-flap. But I really like what it is doing here with wings outstretched.

This are two blown glass models from last century Enemas... I just put them together for you to see and compare. The one with rounded edge is much older, man made. There is a big difference with the upper side one, it is clearly industry made.

Hello my dear friends, a topic with many possibilities, we meet glass wherever we are. This oversupply of glass alone in our household made it difficult for me to decide which photoich to hire. So there were two I would like you to meet. Here now the first; the crystal glass vasein form of a tulip.

Teraz pierwsza; kryształowa, szklana wazelina w postaci tulipana.

For this week's Macro Monday's theme I chose 'Damaged Glass'. Yesterday, we visited Dawlish for the first time and we spend some time wandering along the beach. While strolling along the shore I picked up a piece of very green polished glass. Just out of curiosity I kept on looking and within a very short time I almost had a handful of small pieces of different shades of green. There must be tons of that beach glass! As a coincidence, our little beach glass hunting adventure then led to this week's Macro Monday's theme - Damaged Glass.

Initially, I wanted to take a macro directly at the beach but we were already on our way back once I had the idea of using the beach glass for the upload today.

At home I placed the pieces on a black baking tray filled with a little bit of water and shone on the pile from the side.

After the Wobble tree, the glass hearts, some transparent, others just shining.

When someone has a heart of glass, they are easily affected emotionally.

thanks, M, (*_*)

LEONARDO GLASS CUBE Germany 2015

If you like what you see please be sure to like / fave / share !

whole project in high res: www.philipgunkel.de/showroom/architektur/leonardo-glass-cube

I am so happy to finally share my latest huge architectural portfolio project with you I did back in april in cooperation with Leonardo in Bad Driburg, Germany to extend my architectural portfolio one more time. I really loved the overall architectural design from the very first time I saw it. The all natural looking flowing forms and curves and the white, abstract designed structures together with awesome interior light installations create a very calm and positive atmosphere. One other highlight is the 6m tall free standing glassfacade, which was produced by Leonardo and foliated with analog medium format landscape prints that you can see from the inside. On location I shot this building for four days plus another day for the inside. Postprocessing all 23 photos including a lot of manual blendings, color corrections and some heavy manual pano stitchings took about two and a half month to finish, maybe about two hours a day ~ 150 hrs total. As always I am highly interested what do you think about it and feel free to share and spread the word !

The ‘glass cube’ communicates the world and personality of the brand LEONARDO and turns vision into reality. The numerously awarded design unites the brand values ‘inspiration’, ‘emotion’ and ‘quality’ in an architectonic way.

An interdisciplinary design team, the team of architects from ‘3deluxe’ designed the futuristic building for LEONARDO which consists (at first sight) of two opposing elements: a strict geometric cube and a free form made of curved, white walls, set in this cover. With the combination of architecture, interior and graphical design as well as landscaping to an integrated design concept, ‘3deluxe’ built a complex unit with futuristic charm. The design team ‘3deluxe’ formed up in Wiesbaden (Germany) in 1992, comprising of communication designers Andreas and Stephan Lauhoff, interior designer Nikolaus Schweiger and designer Dieter Brell.

Construction Facts:

tart of construction: 04 | 2004 Construction period: until 24th May 2007 Inside area: 2.800 sq. m Outside area: 5.600 sq. m Height of building: 11m – above ground: 7m Height of glass plates: 6m, width: 2m Height ratio inside: 6m above ground Connection between both floor levels by stairs and elevator Glass façade free from post 36m per side 3 ‘genetics’ inside: 6m high sculptural 3D connection elements of the building zones 187 white elements, 700 sq. m as 2D road network in the outside area

Yes this is glass not sand covering this beach. Glass Beach is located in Fort Bragg off of Highway 1 along the California coast. My parents told me about this location a few years ago and we made this a stopping point on our way down Highway 1 going back towards San Francisco.

The beach is actually made up of glass that has been pounded and smoothed by the waves over many years. Up until 1967 the people of Fort Bragg dumped all of their trash into the ocean next to their city. The glass was broken and smoothed by the waves over the years until it covered the seashore.

We had some trouble finding the actual dumping location when we first got to the beach. We went to the shoreline and did see a lot of glass, but there was also more sand. After asking about 10 people, I finally found a local that lead me to the right location for Glass Beach. The beach is in a cove to the left of the parking lot and it truly is covered with tons of glass. It was an interesting place to visit.
