i generally dont like to have more than one shot per each setup/getup -- but i had a hard time decidin' on this one --- the fact that it was pretty dramatically different than the other contender didn't help either.

so, i posted both even though they weren't screamin' to be a pair.

after a gew qualified and reasoned opinions were spewed forth, i deleted the other one just to make reading all the comments a total waste of time.

basically i ended up with my original choice.

time wastin is dope yo.

Besides Josefina, Felicity probably has my favorite historical collection of all time. I've always been a sucker for colonial fashions. I'll even find myself suckered into watching films/shows that showcase the Victorian time period (I am mesmerized by the wardrobe...not that I'd want to wear it). While I do have three Felicity dolls and all three versions of her "meet" getup, I don't actually own the Beforever lady. I had contemplated buying her when she debuted, but her toned down eye color and lack of any other clothes deterred me. Anyways, my childhood doll, on the far left, was a Christmas gift in 1998. She was my first doll to come with her accessory set too. I HAD to get her mob cap and darling little purse that matched. I was only six when I got Addy, so Mom and Dad probably didn't think I was old enough to get her accessories. With Samantha, I think I just didn't care much for her hat. Lissie's accessory set brings this outfit to the next level, which is why I have ALL of the different renditions of it that were produced over the years. The "Rose Garden" dress was still sold in 2005, when her "meet" dress was revamped. This "Traveling Gown," pictured in the center, was previously a part of her wardrobe. So she didn't technically get a new outfit...American Girl just rotated them around. The accessory set was new, but matched the old one piece for piece. I got mine from the flea market. I have a few of these dresses--two came on my dolls, and the third I got on eBay back when I just had childhood Lissie and Elizabeth. I always questioned how historically accurate this purple dress was. It seemed like a strange color choice...maybe too modern? I know that purple was one of the hardest colors to be manufactured in the olden days (mostly only wealthy people could have purple things). But I didn't do the research for Felicity's wardrobe, so I'm sure their was some historical basis for this choice. Either way, I LOVE it. And the choker that was sold with the accessory set was my favorite piece.

Felicity is currently the only historical doll to date to have THREE generations of "meet" dresses. While she was not officially retired in the late 90s/early 2000s, she was no longer pictured in catalogues. American Girl refreshed her look in 2005 when they introduced Elizabeth and brought her back to the pages of the catalogues. Her Beforever launch came several years after the other girls, in 2017. This outfit was available separately, but she did not get anything else added to her collection (which was SUCH a bummer). Well, she had an undies set..but that's because this "meet" dress didn't come with a shift!!! Anyways, I wanted to purchase it back then, but I didn't have the funds. It was retired after only a brief time, so I had to chase mine down on Mercari. That's also where I found the accessory set, which was still brand new! I actually payed less than retail for both, which was great. This is probably my favorite of the three renditions, because it is impeccable quality. When I first opened it up, my jaw hit the floor. Okay, I don't like the fichu included with the accessory set (the white scarf thing). It looks great, but it literally feels like a napkin. The hat is SO amazing...one of the finest I've ever seen. I guess the whole accessory budget went into the hat, thus why the fichu is so cheaply constructed. But I'm grateful to have it, since it completes the look. The shoes are interesting--they are the same classic colonial design as the other pair but in brown.

Was quite pleased with how this one turned out. Looks surprisingly like him considering the amount of detail you can put into Lego faces :)

"The image of a Syrian child's lifeless body washed up on the shores of a Turkish beach this week brought the world to its knees. His name was Aylan Kurdi, and he was just three years old.

The sad reality is that Aylan was one among millions of desperate people forced to flee from war and persecution. The world is facing a global refugee crisis on a scale we've not seen since WWII, but Australia - our lucky country of a fair go for all - is not doing enough. We can do better to help these people.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: It was honestly about time that I found a Hip 2 Be Square outfit! In 2015, I found my first Hip 2 Be Square Barbie in a random lot of dolls, then the following flea market season, I acquired my second. Neither of my gals had their original outfit when I adopted them. This outfit came from the 2016 "Color Splash Hair Pocahontas lot" (which I acquired several weeks after my second Hip 2 Be Square doll). Ironically, this ensemble goes to the blonde doll--I have the titian and the brunette versions. This outfit is extremely distinctive. Back when I was younger, I remember admiring these Hip 2 Be Square dolls at KB Toys whenever Dad would take my sister and I out. What makes this dress so unique is the fact that the top and bottom portions are held together only with a buckle. I'll admit that this getup isn't the most modest thing, but it looks crazy awesome when a doll wears it! I also think Barbie's funky rectangular earrings compliment this geometric print perfectly!

Whatever this new gang is, they've been poping up around Gotham more and more. Reports of eye infections from their getups are bound to skyrocket. They're all the same as the first group of scumbags we ran into a few nights ago. They're not after money or anything, they're just getting off from terrorizing people. Shit like this is a prime example of what we like to go after. Even after shaking down a group of these idiots (by "shaking down" I of course me traumatizing them all to the point where they have major colon damage for all the self-shitting they did) we found out that they like to hang out at an abandoned junkyard just outside of O'Neil County. Great, my favorite place in the world, O'Neil fucking county. The place was call "Geoff's Junkyard." Breaking in was as predictably easy as you'd think, and the colorful gang was everywhere, so we found our place. Now, where's the leader? Of course, we had to deal with some hairless wonders on our search. J threw a guy into a pile of tires while a guy in green busted a shotgun out of nowhere on him. A woman with the dumbest mohawk I'd ever seen goes at me with a crowbar. I grab the crowbar mid swing and the best "oh fuck" look I'd ever seen goes over her face. This is too easy. Can't imagine whoever's leading these outright Darwin Award candidate's is gonna be much trouble....

The Chimbu skeleton tribe.

I have found different origin stories for this tribe. Why do they paint themselves like this? It's a hard to tell but below are 2 of the most common reasons.

According to their folklore the skeleton based getup was initiated as a way to scare other tribes, with death and ghosts provoking fear across the spectrum of the tribes of Papua New Guinea. Thus the aim was to make enemies think they were supernatural and thus held other worldly powers.

( source: www.youngpioneerstours.com )

The origins of the Skeleton Tribe can be traced back to an intriguing legend. Approximately 200 years ago, a significant number of hunters ventured into the mountains but failed to return. This mysterious disappearance raised alarm among the valley dwellers. Determined to uncover the truth, a brave group of warriors embarked on an expedition to explore the mountains.

As they ventured deeper into the rugged terrain, the warriors stumbled upon a cave. Inside, they discovered a chilling sight – an abundance of human skeletons. However, their attention was quickly drawn to a colossal monster lurking within the confines of the cave. Realizing the imminent danger, the warriors devised a clever plan to outsmart the monster.

To deceive the creature, they decided to paint their bodies with skeleton bones made of black and white clay. Diligently, they meticulously recreated the appearance of the fallen hunters, meticulously blending the painted bones with the actual ones. The ruse succeeded, and as the monster slumbered, the victorious warriors stealthily made their way back to the safety of their village.

I was stunned when I first saw this strange looking herp. It looks like it put on a Halloween getup with that black horned mask. I posted several shots prior and no one commented on seeing similar. It's a juvenile lizard only about three inches in length. I finally concluded that the "black mask" must be attached dried skin from an incomplete shedding. Like for snakes and other herps, this guy must regularly make a new skin sheath as it grows... the skin stretch is very limited. This was initially an exciting find... but likely not a new species or photo "lifer"! (Tis the season... this may be its Halloween getup )

These are probably my favorite looks from the Deluxe Fashion Gift Set. But that's not entirely fair, since the Frozen II outfits were more interesting for me, being that I already owned several dolls from the original movie. Anna and Kristoff's getups are especially exciting. I love how they don more autumnal shades, as opposed to Elsa's traditional icy princess look. Kristoff's ensemble is particularly amazing quality. The shirt is super soft and fleecy! Anna's dress/coat are more what you'd expect...quite flimsy and cheap. But I had that expectation being that Anna and Elsa each came with not one, not two, but FOUR outfits in this pack! Poor Kristoff got ripped off in the wardrobe department and only came with two fashions (thus why you'll see him repeating looks in the four photos of this pack). Although I can't see Anna or Elsa's dresses holding up to extensive play, they work wonderfully for display or light usage. The dolls themselves are so breathtaking, that they make up for any shortage in quality (Kristoff's golden glistening hair leaves me speechless). This pack was a dream come true! I'm so glad I found it for 40% off on the Disney Store website right after the the 2021 New Year. I didn't even know that there was such a set, until I decided to browse online. I should also note that these dolls were my first order ever from the Disney Store's website. Prior to that, I hadn't bought anything brand new from the Disney Store since we made a long trip to one in 2014! I happened to find these dollies on the right day. I always wanted Disney Store Anna and Kristoff dolls (I already found my dream Elsa at the Salvation Army some years before). Plus, who can say no to extra outfits?!!!

The morning was replete with short bursts of rain. Despite of that, the race still had plenty of those that dressed up just for fun as well as those that dressed up for something very meaningful. Here are a few favorites. Enjoy!
