When I look at this photograph, it brings back the memories of the past I shared with him. I was only twelve years old when I met him.. He had a smile as bright as the sun and eyes that held many thoughts and broken promises. He's changed so much over these 5 years of knowing him. He's moved home after losing his older brother to violence, he is a single father of two young boys and he's an aspiring poet and singer that took me to his secret spot. His secret spot where not too many dare to go. It's dark, secluded, an covered with trees and rocks. He took me there around the time the sun was setting on a cold afternoon.. The trees told his story of his broken heart and his torn down limbs but they still stand strong, showing no sign of coming down anytime soon. The setting sun shined into his eyes and lit them, comforting me and letting me know that it's a safe place, even when you're in an unfamiliar place. It has nothing to do with the setting, it has to do with what you make of it. He kissed me and I knew then that I was in the presence of a mysterious, yet loving guy. I mean, he took me to his Secret Get Away.
Unnnnnnfortunately, I assumed it was my Black Friday Amazon purchases, so I opened it without the necessary Secret Santa gift quarantine protocols enabled. Thus, no cute animal pictures, no "Wow, a box" pictures... I hope Robot Santa finds it in his calculation matrix to forgive me.
But, it's books!
I can never have too many of them, and I'm sure I'll enjoy these just fine. I've never read the Mistborn trilogy, and these will keep me well-stocked with reading material for at least a couple of months!

Pics of the Cedars Cancer Institute Dragon Boat Race 2011 that was held on Saturday Sept. 24th at Promenade Père-Marquette in Lachine. It was overcast but the rain stayed away, and all had a good time.

We held a Get Lit event at the corner of N Williams and NE Broadway on October 27th and gave out over 200 lights and reached 110 people. All that in two and a half hours! We heard lots of stories from people passing by, including three different riders who said, "You saved my life!" One woman visiting from out of state stopped to take some video footage, promising to take the Get Lit concept back to her home state and start a campaign there. Photo by Ben Latterell.
