We arrived at the Devil's Gate station of the Georgetown Loop Railway just as a train was getting ready to leave, so there was no time to buy a ticket and little time to pick a spot. This is little more than a grab shot from the parking lot, but the snow capped peaks are nice.

The venerable town of Georgetown, Colorado along I-70. Once a mining town and a fun sight seeing and quick stop along the interstate.
Georgetown is the third oldest city in the U.S. state of South Carolina and the county seat of Georgetown County, in the Lowcountry. Located on Winyah Bay at the confluence of the Black, Great Pee Dee, Waccamaw, and Sampit rivers, Georgetown is the second largest seaport in South Carolina, handling over 960,000 tons of materials a year.
This spectacular stretch of 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge railroad was originally completed in 1884, considered an engineering marvel for its time. The thriving mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume lie 2 miles (3.2 km) apart in the steep, narrow canyon of Clear Creek in the Rocky Mountains west of Denver. Engineers designed a corkscrew route that traveled nearly twice that distance to connect them, slowly gaining about 640 feet in elevation.
In 1973, the Colorado Historical Society began restoring the railroad using track and ties donated by the Union Pacific. This tourist train now operates between Silver Plume and the new Devil's Gate Station, which is 3/4 mile west of Georgetown.
