This is an area of cut crystal with a long row of pyramids. From above they appear as a square and from the side it is a triangle. You get the impression of both here. The crystal is back lit and the directly out of camera special effects are from the trusty Pentacon on macro tubes.

Happy Macro Monday to y'all!
Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them; disagree with them; glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do. --Used in the Apple "Think Different" marketing campaign

Multicolored mesh ribbon that I plan to use for a Fall wreath. Thought it was natural fiber until I got a closer look.
Young Brian is so excited to be back at school. His favourite subject is (of course) biology, but he is particularly enjoying his recent math classes where he has been really getting into Venn diagrams.
A Venn diagram is a method of grouping different sets of items, popularised by John Venn back in the 1880's (although the concept likely originated much earlier). Venn diagrams use simple closed curves, frequently circles, to represent sets. The region where the two circles overlap is called the intersection set and this is where Brian is gaining insight into the nature of Venn diagrams.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.
Macro Mondays theme is "geometry shapes". This oval shaped seed pod of the balloon plant is illuminated by the suns' rays, some of which can be seen at the top of this macro. Also framed at top with some circular bokeh. HMM!

Saturday Self Challenge: Shapes
The first silo for grain storage was built in the early 1900s and provided a much more secure way to store grain and keep it safe from mice. Many such silos were built alongside regional railway lines, providing both a drop off point for farmers, and a pick up point for trains to take the grain for processing. However, changes in agriculture and storage technology, along with the closure of railway lines, has left some silos abandoned. About 170 are still fully operational, and about the same number are no longer in use.
Silo Art has become a drawcard for regional towns,. as skilled artists paint the silos with murals, usually depicting noteworthy features of the area, and art trails wind along country roads.
The above Silos are still in use and depict the stages of flowering of a Banksia flower.
And so we get to the theme for this week's challenge: shapes. As well as the shapes of the silos, the flowers are depicted using a variety of shapes. Enlarging the photograph will bring these up in more detail.
Between 1991 and 1994 I was in charge of Geometry groups at EDINBA, for more than 25 years I kept these exercises stored that my students never collected, I see them now as a subject for photography.
