This is a single Magic-Cube consits of 12 individual Pyramids. Each one connected on two sides and carrying rare-earth magnets to help stabilize the major structures. A single Cube has 36 magnets. There are 5 major shapes that will „fall into place“, meaning the magnets will pull it together and no hinge is left flexible. As a toy the Cube posesses the challenge of a Riddle to unlock the different Shapes or to find the paths of shortest movement between them. As Art it can be left Standing, or with the supplied Wallmount, be displayed as a hanging Object. The beauty of this dissection, displayed in Numbers, are the different sidelengths of a Single Pyramid. Namely: One, Sqareroot of Two and Half Squareroot of Three.

Assembled in Adobe Ideas, which has no provision for straight lines (a surprising shortcoming for a vector based app), so my improvised "straight" lines wobble. All the other irregularities are intentional, or maybe it is all simply more evidence of a seemingly orderly mind going astray.

By the way, this demonstrates again my aversion to symmetry which, however, I've noticed is much liked by many other amateur digital artists. The kind of symmetry I like best is what turns out on closer inspection not to be symmetrical, such as people's eyes, ears, face, arms, legs, etc. Nature seems to be full of near symmetries. I like better the much different and more interesting asymmetries of, say, friends and couples. Decades ago when I collected stamps there was a set with designs of folded paper cutouts (based I think on a folk tradition in Poland) which always changed something in each section when it was unfolded, to avoid any exact symmetries. That was what I liked best about those cutouts.

One of the spookiest near encounters for me was about 30 years ago when a young man my age and build walked past me on the sidewalk and I swear he looked exactly like I do in the mirror and pictures. I might have walked faster then to avoid any chance of him wanting to talk to me, though it seemed that he didn't notice me or maybe saw no similarity. Some people say they would like to have had a twin and one of my best friends in high school was a twin (I was one of the few outside his family who could easily tell him apart from his brother). One of me is just fine and yet quite enough -- two of me would be one too many.

Built in the late 1930s, this very stylised Art Deco villa can be found in the Melbourne suburb of Travancore. The rounded roofline featuring speed lines and the horizontal focus of the design of the house all pay homage to the chic, uncluttered lines of Functionalist Moderne Art Deco architecture, which often featured a horizontal emphasis.

Travancore is a bijou suburb named after a beautiful Victorian mansion erected in 1863. The mansion's grounds were subdivided in the late 1890s to form the new suburb, which consists only of only about five streets. With commanding views of Royal Park, the area was much sought after by aspiring middle and upper middle-class citizens. This medium-sized residence was built on the lowest section of the hill which the Travancore estate once covered, however, its owners had it elevated to allow views over the trees of the parkland, and it is approached by way of a wide sweeping set of stairs which cut their way through a terraced garden. This would suggest it may have been acquired by an aspiring middle-class family who wanted modernity and had enough money to build in the area. The mistress of this house would probably have kept it without any help from outside except for a "daily" woman to do the harder, more manual chores.

I had a couple of small projects to make this week using using golden ambers They inspired me to take an existing design and expand it to be able to include a few more shades. The center is a clear glass jewel with an interesting design in itself. The jewel is surrounded by 5 shades of amber all in different textures.

Underlying the intricate geometric patterns of great complexity displayed in the art of the Shipibo people is a concept of an all pervading magical reality which can challenge the Western linguistic heritage and rational mind.

This block of Art Deco flats in East Melbourne has a wonderful entranceway with geometric Jazz Age designs around its stairwell windows.

This block of flats is typical of the Art Deco architecture that came out of England after the war. They are as chic today as when they were first built in the 20s or early 30s.

I saw this geometric design on a cake by Sweet Picasso and spent a week trying to figure out how she did it. I then bought the impression mat and tried it out.
