The process of creating a pencil portrait of a girl..Old Arbat in Moscow - the street of artists, musicians and poets..On the Old Arbat draw wonderful artists who,

competing with each other, improve their skills in the portrait genre from year to year.

Drawing a portrait is both a show and an attraction and art at the same time. Here the artist must have the knowledge, vast experience, patience, hard work and of course talent in order to solve many creative tasks in extreme conditions in a short time. A portrait painter who paints on the street must choose an appropriate angle for this model taking into account the lighting at a certain time of day and, having achieved an absolute external similarity of the drawing to the original, try to convey the mood, character and inner world of the person. Plus, a self-respecting artist must take care that the portrait drawing looks like a finished work of art.

What I appreciate above all is this kind of discovery: you don't touch anything, except your shutter, and then let your thoughts wander - your nomadic thoughts in this case.

But here I can't help but think of all those bruised souls left behind. And once again, time, like high tide, will erase those lost souls forever.

Great tits are small, slender birds, generally curious and not shy. Black-capped chickadees generally appear in pairs at the feeder, prospecting with other chickadees. However, these are "couples" made up of individuals of the same sex who spend the winter together. As of spring, when the males start to sing, the "false" couples separate. They prefer to hunt in the lower levels of vegetation and on the ground. They often accumulate reserves for periods of scarcity.

She is a fairly regular visitor to many gardens in rural areas. She is quite shy, but she will not disdain the feeders in winter with other varieties of chickadees, provided you find trees or bushes nearby. The tits are so lively and fast that a short moment is enough for them to collect seeds from the feeder.

It's always interesting to look at 'other' genre's of photography., and motorsport is an intriguing one

Slow shutter speed panning is regularly and spectacularly used to emphasis speed an action, but it's not a technique widely used in wildlife photography

Of course there are 'key' differences., racing cars are made of metal., so apart from the wheels going around the rest of the 'object' is in a 'fixed' state., of course an animal or bird is flesh and blood meaning it's 'parts' are in a constant state of 'flux'., esp. a flying bird

However the one part that is in a 'fixed' state is the birds head., and by making that the point of focus it's possible to snap a (very) slow shutter and panned fast moving bird

Some counter intuitive and crazy settings are required., but for me it's opened up a 'Pandora's box' of possibilities

This flying Cormorant is an early attempt., and it's very much the beginning of a long learning curve., but if by using this technique I can portray the movement., speed and action in a 'still frame' of our beloved feathered friends., then it'll be well worth required the perseverance

Tangara pie / Magpie tanager / Cissopis leverianus

The magpie tanager (Cissopis leverianus ) is a South American species of tanager. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Cissopis. As suggested by its common name, this blue-black and white species is superficially reminiscent of a European magpie. With a total length of 25–30 cm (10–12 in), a large percentage of which is tail, it is the longest species of tanager. It weighs 69-76 g.

It is widespread in humid tropical and subtropical woodland, plantations, second growth, and parks in South America east of the Andes. It is absent from drier regions (e.g. the Caatinga) and most of north-eastern Brazil. In densely forested regions, it mainly occurs in relatively open sections (e.g. near major rivers). In such regions it is spreading with deforestation, which opens up the habitat. It is largely restricted to lowlands, but occurs up to an altitude of 2,000 m (6,600 ft) on the east Andean slopes. It is common throughout most of its range, but rarer in the Guianas.

Typically occurs in conspicuous, noisy pairs or groups of up to 10 individuals. Commonly takes part in mixed-species flocks. Often moves long tail up and down. Eats seed, fruits and insects. The cup-shaped nest is lined with grass, leaves or other plant materials and is located low in trees near the ground or in shrubs in dense vegetation. The 2 eggs are reddish-brown with brown spots. The incubation time is 12–13 days in captivity.

Paper.

I only looked at the theme for Macro Mondays this morning not really intending to do anything. But the theme is Pastel and that lends itself to all sorts of ideas.

Flowers first came to mind… and I love photographing those as you probably have realised. But then I guessed there’d be a lot of lovely ones in the group today so I tried to think of something different.

I narrowly saved you from a close-up of a peach flannel :)

This is a shot of three pieces of cream laid paper folded back on themselves. I’ve never done any of this type but I have liked a lot I have seen on Flickr. I love the gentle tone poems you get - all shape and soft colour gradients… bliss.

Anyway this is my first attempt at the genre. Half the work was done in the setup - sunlight, two lamps and a torch all played their part. But, as encouraged by the theme description, a considerable part of the performance was done in the processing, tweaking all sorts to get a soft-coloured high-key result without blowing the highlights. I used curves to get it looking right.

The whole image is cropped to less than three inches (the whole teardrop shape if you could see it was about that), so we are within the guidelines.

I enjoyed this more than I expected. It was fun. So I might try it again :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the tone poem. Happy Macro Mondays!
