Well, this is probably my most interesting commission to do - to create a cross between a panda and a pony! I didn't really know how she was going to turn out, so I gave up guessing and just let my hands get on with it. I really like her - somehow, strangely, it all works!

My statement on genetically engineered foods. I also like using miniature toys with normal sized items. I liked the idea of the farmer next to the giant tomato.
Plants genetically engineered to improve photosynthesis, specifically the photorespiratory bypass, are visibly larger than normal plants in this greenhouse field trial.

During photosynthesis in C3 crops, such as wheat and rice, the enzyme Rubisco will react with oxygen (instead of carbon dioxide) creating a plant-toxic compound that must be recycled, wasting energy. In this greenhouse experiment, nine-week-old plants engineered to more efficiently process this toxic compound are visibly larger than unmodified plants.

Greenpeace activists dressed as chickens circulate a petition, prepared by Greenpeace and the Hotel & Restaurants Association of Negros Occidental (HRANO), urging the Sangguniang Panlalawigan not to amend the ban on GMOs and instead work on implementing rules and regulations towards an Organic Negros Island. The petition was signed by farmers, students, business owners, workers, consumers and other citizens of Negros. HRANO, composed of all the major hotels and restaurants in the province, announced yesterday (16 Sept 09) the partnership with Greenpeace and its stand on the controversial ban.

Greenpeace activists dressed as GMO "monster crops" accompanied by "mad scientists" storm the Department of Agriculture. Greenpeace together with other concerned organizations are demanding the Philippine government to "stop GMO invasion" by cancelling all commercialization and field trials of genetically-modified organisms in the country.
The Department of Agriculture, responsible for regulating GMOs, has never denied approval for any GMO crop. Greenpeace contends that GMOs are dangerous to human health, biodiversity and farmers’ livelihoods.

About 250 people joined the "March Against Monsanto" in Denver, Colorado, one of 400 marches worldwide. (10/12/13) The actions were to protest Monsanto's production and use of GMO's, pesticides, herbicides and genetically engineered seeds.
