So at last I can reveal the shield generator! However I have a confession: It's only half a shield generator. And at that, the two rings I have built are only finished on one side. It will take many more Bricklink orders to complete. I added some flames to suggest the empire at in the middle of destroying it! I hope you enjoy what I've done so far. I'll be displaying it at a show in Ireland next weekend.

A new version of a favorite still-life photo. Subtle texture and highlights were the result of running it through the DDG.

The glazed pottery is Stangl, a pottery company started in 1929 in Flemington,, NJ. Stangl Pottery produced many items including dinnerware, artware and ceramic bird figurines. We lived nearby, toured the factory, and bought two mugs. A generous Aunt gave us a full set of dishes for a wedding present later that year [1966]. The plant went out of business by '72, so it's a collectors' item today.

The Deep Dream Generator just added a Text 2 Dream tool. In this series of four images, I tried a few failed prompts from NightCafe. One turned out a lot better, one worse, and one about the same.

Back in 2019, Heber Valley Railroad acquired a group of heavyweight passenger cars, an F-unit, and a steam generator car from the British Columbia Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. The steam generator car was built in 1958 for the Canadian National Railway.

These were all parked at the I80 truck stop in Walcott IA last week, We talked to one of the drivers and these are over 100 feet long. These are just the blades, I believe they were on their way East. The size of these just was incredible.

Deep Dream Generator, (This is a different version of The Coven on DDG I was not feeling the best when I posted it, this is the one I should have posted)

Second day of our trip to my wife´s grandfathers. As we drove home we got this absolutly amazing look on the wind generators and sunset. It was hard to choose which image to show today, so I decided to put in two images once more.

For F Unit Friday here is another from this fabulous late fall day in the north country following the 470 Railroad Club's annual photo special on the Conway Scenic Railroad. As in years past the train departed North Conway at 9 AM for a six mile run down the ex Boston and Maine Conway Branch to end of track where the power was run around. Then they returned north seven miles to Intervale where they entered the former Maine Central Mountain Subdivision for a 28 mile run west to Fabyans.

As always the club showcased their historic ex B&M F7s but this year they were joined by a special addition in the form of spectacularly restored GP9 1741 resplendent in its as delivered McGinnis 'bluebird' livery. Built in July 1957 as part of a 50 unit order that included trade in credit to EMD on the pioneering fleet of FT A-B locomotives this unit passed to Guilford and later became Springfield Terminal 72. One of the last three in service it was sold to the Heber Valley Railroad in 2017 along with her two heritage painted sisters. While they moved west to new careers this unit lanquished at Waterville where I saw her in 2020: flic.kr/p/2j8F2Jk not long after she was purchased by the 470 Club and in May 2021 made the trip to North Conway where restoration work began in earnest. To read a bit more and see a pic of her in B&M days check out this article.

As for her older siblings, the Fs are original Boston and Maine locomotives wearing their as delivered EMD designed scheme. 4266 was built in Mar. 1949 and was acquired for preservation in 1981 off the Billerica deadline. Restored a couple years later, she has called North Conway home ever since and has been operational off and on for the past four decades.

4268 was built in Oct. 1949 and ran for the very first time in almost a half century just earlier this year. I'm not sure when her last run was, but I can find no photos of her in service after about July 1974. She languished for a decade behind the Billerica shops after being stripped of all major components including prime mover, main generator and traction motors. In 1986 she finally left Billerica by truck after being acquired by George Feuderer who displayed her in a field in East Swanzey, NH until acquired by the 470 Club and trucked to North Conway in October of 1991.

She received a cosmetic restoration in 1993 and had been prominently displayed at the Conway Scenic in the company of her operational sibling ever since. After years of planning, the club began restoration in earnest in 2018 with the full support of the railroad and its shop using ex New Hampshire Northcoast GP9 1751 (ex PRR) as a major parts donor for the four year long restoration project.

The following additional information is courtesy of Carl Byron:

The 4268A was actually built in March, 1949 as Engineering Test Dept Locomotive #930. Used for high altitude component testing on the DRGW's Soldier Summit among other locations. It spent some of that summer masquerading as a CB&Q locomotive leading their passenger car display at the 1949 Chicago World's Fair. It was then was cleaned up, re-engined, and made into to a standard F7A and offered for sale at a slightly used demo price. The B&M bought it and it was renumbered and painted into the B&M livery and shipped east, so while the builders plate may well say 10/49 but it certainly had a prior interesting career.

The trio are seen here on the final pull up the 2.2% grade to the 1900 ft crest of the grade at Crawford Notch station which is a bit over a half mile behind me. The train is near about MP 84.4 as it slithers thru the reverse curves on the approach to the big rock cut at the Gateway having climbed some 1400 ft since departing North Conway.

To support the ongoing upkeep of this unit and to thank the club for their tremendous efforts in real substantive rail preservation I encourage you to make a donation here:

Anyone who thinks he did not mean what he did is a fool...he has been supporting 'Nazi' style far right parties in the UK, Germany via X. Richest man on earth or not a Nazi is a Nazi and he needs to be boycotted, any company that deals with him should cut ties with him or face the same boycott. Trump needs to make a public address rebuking him, but he won't because he is the new Hitler. Proud boys marching through the streets of DC, the very city that trash attacked. What you saw on the 20th Jan 2025 was America taking the first steps to becoming a Fascist country. Next they will be telling you it's your duty to inform on your family members and neighbours if they are branded 'undesirable' for whatever reason. God help you all.

Just noticed this is a repeat but it still seems to draw a little interest so I'll leave it up.

i did not get the reason why but anyways

"Soldiers need to warm up with an energy generator so as not to freeze to death on the cold nights of that frozen planet."

From space, the planet of Hoth looked like a pale blue orb due to its dense snow and ice covering. Five planets existed between Hoth and its sun, while an asteroid belt surrounded the planet with meteors occasionally striking the surface.

Most of its surface was covered with glaciers and frozen ice plains. Another third of the planet was covered by oceans. The temperature, although always frigid, was known to drop to -60°C come nightfall.

I just finished generating and editing this picture [a brown bowl with plain white stones in it]. Being a great lover of colored tones, this was way too much fun to produce!

A little Deep Dream Generator fun.

A friend made a comment on FB that I took a lot of nature photos. I've decided to show her, and others, that I can take other things!!

Thank you for your favourites. :O)
