The Electricity Museum (in Portuguese Museu da Electricidade) is a cultural centre that presents the evolution of Energy with a Museum of Science and Industrial Archaeology concept, where themed and experimental exhibits live side by side with a great variety of cultural events. We took the short tour (it was longer before 9/11). A guide led us to an elevator that took us 500 feet down into the canyon wall. Then we walked down a long tunnel drilled out of rock and saw these huge hydroelectric generators in this 650-foot long room on the Nevada side of the dam. (The Arizona side has something similar.) The generators are turned by the force of river water running through huge pipes near the base of the dam. At that point, the dam is 660 feet (201 m) thick.
