Te-Chi Reservoir 德基水庫
At 180 meters high and 290 meters in length, with a storage capacity of more than 175,000,000 cubic meters, Te-Chi Dam is one of the largest/tallest dams in the world. Construction of the dam was started in 1969 by the Taiwan Power Company and was completed five years later in 1974. Its power station contains three 78 MW generators for a total installed capacity of 234 MW.

Unfortunately I am not allow to take photos of the Generator sets that I work on at Cummins Power Generation, so this is the closest I can get - a photo taken from the internet. At least it gives an idea of the sort of kit I am testing up to full load - ear defenders a must!!!!
(Although this is most probably a QSK60 with a 3201 panel and is bigger than those I currently test, the biggest being a KTA50)
My Dad and I went hiking up to the old dams and powerhouse on Bear Creek a couple of weeks ago. Lovely weather and bit of snow on the ground. We only made it the powerhouse, as the foot bridge looked a bit too slick this time.

Begin februari verhuist kunstenaar en wetenschapper Theo Jansen tijdelijk zijn beroemde Strandbeesten naar een nieuw winteratelier. In de industriële en poëtische turbinehal van de E.ON Electriciteitsfabriek is vanaf half maart tot begin mei het maakproces van een nieuw Strandbeest van dichtbij te volgen. In de hal construeert Jansen een groot, nieuw dier; de Animaris Suspendisse (10 x 4 meter, bij 4 meter hoog). Een uitgestrekte zandlaag vormt de werkvloer om het nieuwe beest uit te proberen. Zeven andere forse strandbeesten bewegen zich -aan de hand van een bezoeker – voort op de begane grond.
Als in een laboratorium experimenteert Jansen met electriciteisbuis, tape, tie-raps en patflessen. Al twintig jaar toetst Jansen de vernuftige proefjes om tot de techniek te komen waarmee ooit zijn kudde – misschien wel geheel zelfstandig – de duinen kan onderhouden. Een droom die hem drijft om door te zoeken naar nieuwe technieken en ontwikkelingen.
In de tentoonstelling ‘Generator Strandbeest’, op de eerste verdieping van de fabriek, wordt een historisch overzicht getoond van de evolutie en het maakproces van de dieren aan de hand van een paleontologisch veld met fossielen. Film, foto’s en video materiaal lichten de ontstaansgeschiedenis toe. Dagelijks wordt er een rondleiding gegeven door Theo Jansen zelf.
Begin mei wordt de kudde, dan een dier rijker, uitgeleid naar zee waarna de dieren weer wind kunnen vangen en uitgelaten langs de kustlijn kunnen paraderen.
Since 1990 Theo Jansen has been occupied with the making of a new nature. Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic material of this new nature. He makes skeletons which are able to walk on the wind. Eventually he wants to put these animals out in herds on the beaches, so they will live their own lives.
The White River Falls powerhouse was built in 1910 to service the local area near Tygh Valley. Rotor and stator windings have been removed.

Work is under way to decommission the Heavy Water Components Test Reactor, which had been used to test experimental fuel assemblies for commercial heavy-water power reactors.
