Wigstock 2004 in Tompkins Square Park in the East Village of New York City as part of The Howl Festival.

Wigstock started in 1984 , Drag Queens from the Pyramid Club headed over to Tompkins Square Park, including Brian Butterick, Michael "Kitty" Ullman, Wendy Wild, The "Lady" Bunny and a few members of the Fleshtones were horsing around in the bandshell when someone came up with the idea of a day-long drag festival - and calling it Wigstock. It was Lady Bunny went ahead and getting the necessary permits and Wigstock was born. Wigstock moved to Pier 54 after becoming such a large event that it could no longer be held in Tompkins Square Park, in 2004 Wigstock returned to the East Viallge as part of the annual Howl Festival.

This is simply me ... shaving ... with my usual razor ... an old fashioned cut throat.

This is inspired in part by my flatmate's studies into gender identity and concepts of masculinity. This made me think of the ritual of shaving. Whilst I envy the convenience for those men who have not needed to shave even into their late twenties I know they have envied the icon of masculinity that they have perceived my beard to be.

Lighting info: I lit this by firing my flash away from me and into the corner of a white walled room, to the left and just behind the camera.

How do nature and nurture interact to produce a persistent awareness of one's identity as male or as female?

How does understanding the psychology of transgendered people illuminate gender psychology?

When Deborah Rudacille learned that a close friend had decided to transition from female to male, she felt compelled to understand why.

Coming at the controversial subject of transsexualism from several angles–historical, sociological, psychological, medical–Rudacille discovered that gender variance is anything but new, that changing one’s gender has been met with both acceptance and hostility through the years, and that gender identity, like sexual orientation, appears to be inborn, not learned, though in some people the sex of the body does not match the sex of the brain.

Informed not only by meticulous research, but also by the author’s interviews with prominent members of the transgender community, The Riddle of Gender is a sympathetic and wise look at a sexual revolution that calls into question many of our most deeply held assumptions about what it means to be a man, a woman, and a human being.

NYC Pride March

47 years after the Stonewall Riots of June 28, 1969

The 47th NYC Pride March started at noon on June 26, at 5th Avenue and 36th Street in Manhattan. The route proceeded through Midtown down 5th Avenue, before heading west into Greenwich Village, ending at Christopher and Greenwich Streets.

Heritage of Pride, Inc. (HOP / NYC Pride) is a non-profit organization that plans and produces New York City's official LGBT ( Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride events each year.

Heritage of Pride hosts New York City’s Pride events in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots of 1969.

Stonewall riots happened 47 years ago in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City.

The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the LGBT community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the single most important event leading to the LGBT liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT equal rights in the United States.

The 2016 Pride March happened on the one-year anniversary of the Obergefell v. Hodges decision, the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

The 2016 march also happened to come just days after Stonewall Inn, the famous gay bar located in Greenwich Village, was designated as the first national LGBT monument in the U.S.

On Monday, June 27th 2016 the Stonewall National Monument (U.S. National Park Service) designation took place in New York City. The monument sits across the street from The Stonewall Inn, a National Historic Landmark known for its involvement in the beginning of the modern struggle for civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) Americans.

Remarks from - President Barack Obama June 2016

"I’m designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America’s national parks system. Stonewall will be our first national monument to tell the story of the struggle for LGBT rights. I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country – the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us. That we are stronger together. That out of many, we are one."

Hillary Clinton made an unannounced appearance and was joined by New York State Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Rev. Al Sharpton

NYC Pride 2016 theme, "Equality Needs You"

NYC Pride 2016 three Grand Marshals

Jazz Jennings - 15-year-old honorary co-founder of the Transkids Purple Rainbow Foundation and the youngest Grand Marshal in NYC Pride history

Subhi Nahas - Syrian refugee who co-founded the first LGBT magazine in Syria, Mawaleh.

Cecilia Chung - civil rights leader and activist for LGBT rights

NYC Pride March Director 2016 - Julian Sanjivan

According to organizers, around 30,000 people marched in the parade itself. Law enforcement officials expected that there would be around 2.5 million attendees in total, and that more or less comports with CBS News' reporting, which found that almost 2 million spectators joined the marchers.

NYC Pride is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that manages and produces New York City's official LGBT Pride celebrations each year in June

Al Sharpton

The Koothandavar Festival of Koovagam, Tamil Nadu, must count among the most bizarre rituals observed in India. Hundreds of transgenders gather here for 18 days in April-May to observe the festival, which has roots in a legend from the Mahabharata. This is the largest gathering of transgenders in the world.

For most of the year, Koovagam is a sleepy village but during the festival, which culminates on Chitra Pournami, it becomes a magnet for transgenders from across the country.

Al Sharpton

In response to the vast growing school of ignorantism, scientist at the Lisa' onian institute have found evidence, that visual models often tend to be easier for simple minds to accept. Thus this model was created explaining even children quite simply to maneuver the (it would seem) difficult waters of sexuality.

The only important note to this model are the 2 exceptions. Firstly one must learn to accept that a Transexual person who have undergone surgery, are considered to be fully of the ”other sex”. (a MtF is considered fully female) - Further more people defining them self ”pansexual” are of cause, and of obvious reasons, ”beyond” this model.

The model was kindly shared with the courtesy of Department of moral opposition. - Lisa' onian institute of Genderism.

The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay (LGBT) community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn (nightclub / bar / disco), located on Christopher Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States.

Many pride events happen in the month of June to commemorate this date.

Al Sharpton
