It is a wonderful time to visit the lakes in teh Eastern Sierras. There is still plenty of snow to provide an incredible backdrop!
Gem was just that this day as the water stayed very calm into the mid-morning!
The Gem Theater in the 18th and Vine Jazz District Kansas City. Right after I took this they turned out the light so I'm afraid it's my only shot of this.
Gemmed Satyrs (Cyllopsis gemma) are often described as being found in open woods, commonly along trails...as was this one which was perching on the rocky Occoneechee Mountain Loop Trail at Occoneechee State Natural Area, Orange County, NC. They apparently seldom nectar, but instead feed on sap, dung, etc.. The larvae feed on various grasses.

This is the Gen Theatre in Calhoun, Georgia. The Gem Theatre website recounts the history of this building: "In 1936, GEM Theatres - in partnership with Martin Theatres of Alabama - purchased a two-story furniture warehouse, originally built in 1920, on US 41 in Calhoun, Georgia. The furniture warehouse was renovated into a 718 seat auditorium where it served as the only thriving movie house in Calhoun. It remained so for the next 37 years. In 1982, the building was sold to Jerry Mulkey, who renovated the building again and created a local men's clothing store, The Haberdasher. The Haberdasher occupied the front portion of the building for 20 years. Mulkey then sold the building to a developer who had plans to use it as office and residential rentals. A group of friends gathered and decided that they would like to restore the elegance and excitement that the building once brought to Calhoun as the GEM Theatre. The building was then bought by Raymond and Pearl King in 2002 who turned it over to the Friends of the GEM Theatre. As of November 2008, the theatre is in it's final phase of restoration and is hoped to be completed by the end of 2009, when after more than 70 years, the GEM will finally come full circle to entertain the citizens of Calhoun in all it's original beauty and elegance."

Update: This is an aquamarine from Gilgit in Pakistan and is part of the permanent exhibit of Naturalis. The largest crystal is about 3.5 inches or 9 cm. in width.
I finally got my very first MSDs, two Little Gems from Soom Free Choice Event a while ago. I am so happy that I decided Aphan should be one of them, he is so adorable! And I am surprised how well they pose, they are my first none tiny dolls and I just love MSD size!!!
I taught myself how to cut and polish opal from rough. I love it as a gem. I also carve when I can. Opal is notoriously difficult to photograph.
I discovered that if you use inverted bows on the underside of plates at a half-stud-offset, you can attach larger platforms to DOTS bracelets. This build uses the design technique to create a 'working' snowglobe, complete with small opalescent gems for *snow* effect.
Campus expansion west of Reedy Branch Road has prompted Pitt Community College to purchase a pair of Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) to help employees continue providing campus services efficiently.
The GEM Cars have met Pitt’s transportation needs and have done so in an eco-friendly manner, since they have no tailpipe emissions. The four-passenger cars are powered by an electric, 72-volt battery... system that results in low cost of ownership and energy efficient power. A single, 110-volt charge provides the range needed to provide service for the entire campus.
All GEM vehicles are street legal for roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. They have a top speed of 25 mph and offer 80 options and accessories that allow for numerous configurations
