On Monday, February 23, 2015, my office and the Bloomington community honored Virginia Geil (1923-2014) for the hard work and dedication she gave to Bloomington. Virginia came to Bloomington in 1960 and left a legacy of proud service and stewardship in the community. She founded the PTA at Gerald Smith Elementary, served on the Bloomington MAC for ten years, President of the BHS Band Boosters, Bloomington Women's Club, Bloomington Preservation Foundation, and founded the Bloomington Youth Accountability Board. She also served the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a Bloomington Citizen Patrol. She was responsible for the effort that moved the historic Bloomington Garage to its current location, preserving its history which led to is being recognized by the State of California as a Historical Point of Interest. Present for today's dedication of Virginia Geil Way was her daughter, Pamela; grandsons, Daniel and Raymond; as well as representatives from Senator Norma Torres and Assemblymember Cheryl Brown, and dozens of community members.

... Geil hat sich ein Geburtstagsausflug gewünscht
Das Schloss Bothmer befindet sich am Rande der nordwestmecklenburgischen Kleinstadt Klütz. Der denkmalgeschützte Komplex aus mehrflügeligem Schloss und rechteckiger Garteninsel bildet die größte erhaltene Barockanlage Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns. Die zum Schloss führende Festonallee ist ein in Deutschland einzigartiges Gartendenkmal.
Das Schloss wurde nach englischen und niederländischen Vorbildern für den in Diensten des englischen Königshauses stehenden Reichsgrafen Hans Caspar von Bothmer von 1726 bis 1732 als Stammsitz seiner Familie erbaut. Zusammen mit zahlreichen benachbarten Gütern befand es sich über zweihundert Jahre im Eigentum der Bothmer. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Besitz enteignet und das Schloss in der Zeit der DDR zu einem Altenheim umfunktioniert. Nachdem ein privater Investor ein geplantes Nutzungskonzept nicht umsetzen konnte, ist es heute Eigentum des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Nach einer Zeit des Leerstands und Verfalls wird es gegenwärtig saniert. Unter dem Dach der Deutschen Stiftung Denkmalschutz wurde eine treuhänderische Stiftung gegründet, die das Land Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bei der Sanierung und Restaurierung des Schlosses unterstützt. Das Land wird bis 2014 mehr als 20 Millionen Euro aus verschiedenen Quellen für die Sanierung von Schloss und Park aufwenden.
