On the last weekend of Summer on Sandy Hook, New Jersey I watched the sunset decided to shoot a long exposure of the Raritan bay beyond the sea wall. Im so glad i was able to make this photo, I will always remember Sandy Hook and Gateway National Recreational Area as one of New Jersey's Beautiful landscapes. Enjoy:-)

No matter which angle, it just seems impossible that you could take a little pod up to the top. I didn't know you could go up the arch until I visited. To get up, you are crammed into a 5-person tram that takes about 3 minutes to ascend up the structure. It can get a little claustrophobic.

Fun Facts: Both the width and height of the arch are 630 feet. The arch is the tallest memorial in the United States and the tallest stainless steel monument in the world.

... out of our Earth's gravity

Thank you to everyone who takes time to view and comment on my work. Any critique or feedback is welcomed or feel free to browse my other galleries at kdp450.smugmug.com which are constantly changing. Most recent postings can by found in the "Recent Postings (Not Dailies)" gallery.

Just found this little scene quite pleasing. The Cow Parsley is quite spectacular this year.

In light of all the immigration issues in our country lately, this seems appropriate to the topic...

ODC: Gateway

The Gateway Arch is the centerpiece of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, Missouri. It was built as a monument to the westward expansion of the United States. At 630 feet, it is the tallest man-made monument in the United States, Missouri's tallest accessible building and the largest architectural structure designed as a weighted or flattened catenary arch. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River where the city of St. Louis was founded, the arch was designed by Finnish American architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel in 1947. Construction began on February 12, 1963 and ended on October 28, 1965. The monument opened to the public on June 10, 1967.

I didn't get to go up to the top of the arch. Shortly before my visit, a tram had stalled while climbing to the top of arch and some visitors were trapped for about an hour before being rescued. You can read about it here:

The Grand Gateway (港汇广场 = Ganghui Guangchang) complex in Xujiahui consists of twin office towers and a huge shopping mall, located at the intersection of Huashan Road and Hongqiao Road.

This has been a 2-stage development, with the shopping mall constructed first. Only after the commercial success of the mall the twin towers have been added, though they have been in the project from the very beginning.

Height of the office towers is 262 m, including a decorative roof structure. Functional roof height is 225 m.
