Taken from outside the gate.
The name of this four-storey-high gatehouse is from the Old Norse 'mykla gata' or 'great street', and leads onto Micklegate ('gate' is Norwegian for 'street' remaining from Viking influence in York). It was the traditional ceremonial gate for monarchs entering the city, who, in a tradition dating to Richard II in 1389, touch the state sword when entering the gate.

Water shortages are a big problem for rice farmers as it reduces yields and also only allows for one harvest per year. The construction of irrigation canals helps to solve these problems as it allows for a steady constant supply of water all year round. Farmers in areas with good irrigation are able to harvest two to three times a year, greatly increasing their rice productivity. The Sinking Gates
One of the old inner gates from Alfred Lock, Birkenhead sat in Alfred in a sad state. Unsure what exactly happened but I know nothing hit the gate but the hydraulic arm was bent out of shape. Gate might have gotten stuck and it destroyed the stainless steel hydraulic arm.
Not sure what's going on at the side here...

White Gates Residence

This home, which has become casually known as “White Gates”, is a stellar example of mid century modern with unlimited potential. She sits on a spectacular acre lot with incredible mountain and city views. The current owner, Lynda Maze, has several sets of plans including as-built as well as Beadle style renovations. She also holds a city permit for renovation. Lynda is in love with this residence and refers to it as the “Jewel of Phoenix.”
Visiting this site, even in its state of disrepair, is somewhat of a pilgrimage for Al Beadle afficionados.
White Gates is situated on a prime piece of real estate on the south side of Camelback Mountain.
According to one article the home “stands strongly against its surroundings, presenting a bold rectangular block of vivid color and brilliant white. The symmetry of the façade with its rhythm of regularly spaced openings and pierced concrete screens establishes an ordered formality at the outset.”

Ghiberti, Lorenzo. Italian designer, sculptor, goldsmith, architect and writer. He was Florentine and first came to prominence as winner of the 1401 competition for a set of bronze doors to the Florence Baptistry, intended to match those of Andrea Pisano. The original brief seems to have been for a set of 28 Old Testament scenes, the trial subject being The Sacrifice of Isaac. Both Ghiberti's winning relief and that of the runnerup, Brunelleschi, survive (Florence, Bargello). The programme was subsequently changed to a series of New Testament scenes, plus saints, but the format of 28 quatrefoils (foils) was retained.
