The Golden Gate's morning fog (which I hadn't seen from the headlands before) with the city and Bay Bridge behind it.
A lot of detail to like in the boys entrance to this former school on Great Moor Street in Bolton. The fencing and the arc in the wall top on the right are wonderful. The County Grammar School was built in 1897 and is listed Grade II including the gates and fencing alongside.
Sculpture called "Gate" (Swedish: Port) made in granite in 2013 by Karl Chilcott, Sweden. Guy called "Bengt" (my brother).
Contemporary sculptures in a pre-historic landscape. Exhibition in 2014, Pilane, Sweden. When the British newspaper The Guardian appointed "10 of the best scupture parks in Europe", Pilane was one of them.

Another shot taken here in Mount Wilson during the Autumn months... There are some beautiful scenes up and around this awesome garden village...
It is easily my most favourite season up there, being Autumn that is... So much colour, mood and atmosphere...

The front gates of ESA’s technical heart in the Netherlands, set to be thrown open to the European public on Sunday 2 October.
In place for more than half a century, the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk on the North Sea coast is ESA’s largest establishment, focused on developing technology, planning missions and testing satellites.
A full-scale model of the ERS-1 Earth-observing satellite, launched in 1991, is placed to the right.
October’s annual ESTEC Open Day will be your chance to explore the sprawling facility, meet astronauts, scientists and mission designers and see special exhibits and actual space hardware.
This annual event takes place as part of the Netherlands’ national Weekend of Science, as well as World Space Week.

By the celandines was this open gate. The surrounding wall and gateway were festooned with ivy, and dry leaves from autumn lay on the garden path.
I did peep through the gate. The path curved around the bushes and disappeared. Behind the wall lies extensive gardens and a large house (I think it is now a Nursing Home).
A gateway like this inevitably recalls a Secret Garden or some child's story of magic or danger or mystery (or all three).

Former Secretary of Defense and CIA director Robert Gates has served presidents of both parties. In recent
years, he’s warned against cutting the U.S. defense budget, citing threats from China and North Korea. He
also cited that it’s the responsibility of the United States to maintain security around the world: “This is an
exceptional responsibility and something we must never lose sight of.” Gates has become a flashpoint for
criticism by some who see him stuck in a Cold War-mentality and argue that China is bidding their time while
we bankrupt ourselves with military spending, much in the same way we did with the Soviet Union a generation
ago. The United States is currently responsible for about half of the world’s military spending annually.

The huge Imperial City which is 2.5 K on its perimeter is filled with courtyards and doors and arches. Each building was designed to serve the Emperor in specialized ways. The gates were always decorated by reliefs and mosaics created in the prime colors. All of the elements of the earth an also be found in the complex.

Michael Fletcher is visiting the Golden Gate bridge so I’m posting a shot I have of it.
Being on the Marin side on the winter morning meant that it was much too bright to take a shot of the city after the sun rose. I composed this shot away from the sun and hoped that the matrix meter and bracketing would do an adequate enough job to allow digital blending to work.
This was shot with last night's light balance so I had DxO adjust the white balance to daylight.
On the third exposure, I caught a stroke of luck as a truck passed just out of frame. I had to leave it in the shot. :-)
When blending, I noticed that I had forgotton to lock down my ballhead and so some alignment was needed. Since it wasn’t perfect, I chose to blend the +2EV as the land on the right giving the whole scene a little “halo.” I left in the -2EV and 0EV portions for much of the foreground to vignette away the stakes in the ground. It turns out the -2EV was dark enough that I could have composed some more of the city into frame. Oh well! live and learn.
I cropped it to 16:9 because it looks much cooler this way.

As I arrived into the medieval old town of the capital of Lithuania, the sun had just set and the blue glow of twilight was mixing smoothly with the street lights and illuminated Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn, I checked directions to my Airbnb and thought to myself... 3G sucks in Vilnius #firstworldproblems #itraveltoomuch
